I have never eaten real turtle. Campbells use to put out a mock turtle soup which I think was baby veal and with sherry in it. It was good.
I have fish patties in the freezer. Or cans in the pantry. Last time Red Lobster I had catfish. I do not get real fish very often.

Yer right spuds, turtle soup is gourmet food......when i was a kid we never made soup with it...we always fried it...i think it tastes so good cause they are so hard to clean, but, if ya know a little trick, it's a snap.

When Walmart had the fish counter years ago I was trying all kinds of things. No turtle but had frog legs. They were good. I will try things. I was working just a couple servings for me did not cost bad.

Use to be we could get big sucker now and then in the irrigation ditch. I would slice down through the back and fry. I used lemon water on them and tasted okay.

Colorado, when i was young i would go frog giggin 2 or 3 times a week...love frog legs. I would also gig the big suckers...we would filet them and grind them up to make fish patty's...very good also. hdsk

Back in late 30's mom would buy dried cod fish. She soaked it up and put with mashed potatoes for fish cakes.
I can remember back when Friday was fish day. Late 40's folks got pound of flounder frozen for like 29 cents. That pound did the 3 of us a good meal. Store would have in for Friday.
I had been getting flounder at Red Lobster and they started putting less and less on the plate. Last time I got catfish. Got a nice piece. Same price . I learned to make hush puppies. Good .

Good . mussed out on dried cod..but had to survive canned salmon for patties...just didn't like those bones..YUCKO Red Lobster...last time we went we were disappointed, and won't go back...Like You say Colorado, small portions...and not that palatable.. My scallops were tough and dry (overcooked)and other issues
