Caveman, love my greens with cornbread. But they gonna be collards, turnip or mustard greens. Kale, just doesn't make it for me. Chicken: ya gotta love it any way you fix it. May just have some to night. CF

Cave have you found that the turnip greens (store bought) are smooth leaf and don't have the right taste? I have checked it out and the ones they are selling now don't make turnips, just greens. For easy and quick harvest. And that 3 turnips in a bag cost $2.50. I am talking small turnips to. Not happy about that I won't buy them. Just need to grow my own I guess.CF

I can not figure out why turnips are so high. Parsnips $3 a #. Not many buy? Every thing is so high. Back in 60's husband would ask the guy about turnips and he said they would not sell.
I have to cook somethings today.

Some stuff at local stores are just crazy high priced. I do curly kale & sell all that we take to the market. I also grow a lot of lettuce..as it sells like crazy..loose leaf &then we bag it.

Dad grew kohlrabi at the ranch, we did not eat leaves and it was not bitter. Rutbagas were good. Root crops as over 8000 feet. peas grew all summer. We even could grow head lettuce. Some meat and roast with veggies was good. We watered from a spring Long ditch to garden.
Nephew tells his grand kids how we worked on the ranch and they can not believe it. We did work hard. My nephew is 78 now. My nephew and I enjoyed the ranch. Niece says worst years of her life and she did not work like we did, She was younger.
Supper is green beans and bacon sandwich. Milk and pills.

Yeah even root veggies be spendy these days Colorado, like You said, they wouldn't even carry some because there wasn't a market for them... Just like Meat.. at one time..Chicken wings were cheap... Just heard the other night on TV that 1.3 billion chicken wings will be consumed Today (Super Bowl)Beef skirt steak...cheap.. flat iron steak...cheap... The list goes on But now..they are "trendy" shake

So that is what you guys are up to. No free T V here. We get radio on translator. Just public radio. They spend a lot of time asking for money, old cars or stocks. Valley.
I have never bought just chicken wings. One time to make cheap meal got package of backs, wings, necks and he yelled where is the rest of the chickeken. . Made chicken and noodles.
Use to be hamburger was cheapest meat. Not now. Look at price of beans. USDA says $196 for food for lady like 70 for a month.. Older you get you can eat cheaper as you eat less. That is their thrifty plan.

I just put a amall amount of whole wheat pasta on to cook, I tried it before and it went to mush . The other whole wheat pasta cooked fine. Tasted good. I cooked a bit tought this time and hot it will cook a bit more. I will add to creamed tuna. That will last a few meals. Then need to cook something for supper. Probably more chicken and mashed taters. Need something to go with peas and green beans.
