Seeing how it's about that time fer most of Us, thought I'd ask the Mater question! HOW THEY DOIN' ? I know Crazy has eaten a mater sandwich already. We don't set the plants out till memorial day here in Mn. but got alot of them on, ripening, as I type. Should have several specimens for the fair in two and a half weeks! I'll fetch a pic here in a few minutes of some of our " greenies"

I've had a REALLY slow start with mine down here. I put them out around 5/20 but they did not start growing til I replanted them in larger pots with better dirt about a month ago. I am just starting to get maters on mine about a week ago...and only two of my 7 planted took off.

My cherry tomatoes have been turning red left and right. At the same speed, my 6 year old daughter has been picking them and popping them into her mouth! Little turd...My Romas have green tomatoes all over, but I've had only 3 turn so far, so I dunno what to do. I was growing them only for sauces, maybe I could make a lunch pasta from these 3. My Brandywines are producing, but they are still in the baby stage, you can fit 2 'maters in the palm of your hand, and I expect them to get 3x that big. It just started producing the 'maters recently, so I probably won't have ripe ones for a bit now. I have another tomato plant which I have no clue what kind it is, it was a rescue from Lowe's. It looked pitiful, so I bought it. It's doing very well now, I've gotten several tomatoes off of it. I gave the red ones to my dad and I've been frying green ones. I grow tomatoes, but won't eat them raw. I have to put them in cooking for me to be able to eat 'em.
Just wait until next year....I'm going to have way more tomatoes! Gotta remember, this is my first summer in a new house, so it's my first time since I was a kid gardening. There's no stopping me now, I'm hooked!

That sounds good. Has anyone ever pickled green tomatoes? They are good, with onions in the jar as well.

Don't forget to make some spaghetti sauce, if ya like sketti, cheaper and better than store bought. Then at the end of the season last year I made some raspberry jam using green mators just to use them up. Mine are almost finished making, been pulling some plants already to get ready for fall/winter planting. trudy
