if you have cats aka furry cockroaches......you have to have cat litter and those buckets make great nest boxes.
take a cat liitter bucket:
cut off the lid where it hinges:
take a section of 1"x4" and line it up and pre drill your holes, install the bolts through the predrilled holes and add the nuts and tighten:
add some hay and a hen.....yf egh

Great idea!! Growing up- we used old milk crates, too. And golf balls for nest eggs. Thanks!!

Here is what Doug made for our RIR's He hinged the top so we could let the girls get the eggs, too. Just a little easier if we could lift the top He's pretty handy to have around And one more of one of the girls in it....
