We decided to make one of our kitties, Sherbert, an outside cat to help keep the moles out of the garden, and other pests at bay. We don't really have a barn, but we have a large storage shed where I store bird seed and such that I wanted to protect for rodents. Sherbert loves to hunt so I figured he'd fit the bill. Well, for weeks, I was so proud of him. I'd find dead moles outside all the time. He was doing his job well. Fast forward to this morning. Oy. I look outside and he's doing laps in the garden. He was apparently on the trail of a mole (found one dead after I scolded Sherbert for being in the garden) but decided he'd play with it a while instead of just getting the job done and moving on. In the process, he mowed over all my tender young okra plants!! This was the second time I've planted okra. The first plants were from seeds and didn't look good so I replaced them from live plants from the local nursery. So, I guess I have to give him credit for getting rid of the mole, but I have to deduct points for his technique.

Good Morning, and a big Ol WELCOME to the Phorum !! SOunds like you been havin some "critter related" problems with your garden, we have problems with our outdoor cats (I try to bean em with dirt clods) ... they learn, eventually, and Our dog, he gets chained until the crops are big, and he DOESN'T see us out there digging... (thinks he should dig too, why not, they were diggin in that spot all day) Mostly roaming dogs we have a problem with...Love the pics of your doggies too by the way, I'll have to try to get a close up of Our dog Tank, he does a GREAT Elvis impersonation

GT'75, love your cat's name. We keep our outside cat well fed so he will leave the birds alone...the only time he catches anything is when the mockingbirds practically walk up and peck him on the head...he loves to lie in the dirt so I keep one of those small cheap wire fences around most everything i don't want rolled on but then my garden plots are pretty small so it doesn't take much fence...
welcome to the phorum...
