I "inherited" an orphaned kitten Saturday. (He is now called Moonshine ) I picked up the kitten formula and know how to "stimulate" him to make him pee and poop. He is peeing fine, but still no poops. How long is too long for him to go without pooping? He seems happy and healthy. He plays, eats, creeps around, just NO poop. I don't want him getting sick. Here is a couple pics of my baby boy! and my hand in there for referrence

Aw what cute little thing! Evacuation of the bowel will probably not happen at the first attempt and may take a day or two. When it does happen, don't be horrified at the toothpaste consistency and mustard color -- this is normal for a newborn. (A grayish stool is cause for concern, however; call the vet at once.) Once bowel movements have begun, you should see a movement for every feeding.
Are you using a wet wash cloth? That works best.
Make sure you don't over feed the kitten or under feed it for that matter. Either way you'll know:
If under fed , the kitten will cry, and be restless, and then listless. If overfed: the kitten will have diarrhea . Kittens can become dehydrate quickly, so fed carefully!
Call the vet if If diarrhea (or constipation) develops, consult your veterinarian for adjustment of the formula or feeding portion. If the stool is liquid or bloody or contains mucous, consult your vet.
Hope this helps! Do a google search on Caring and feeding of Orphaned kittens. You should get a ton of info ! Good luck and keep us posted on "Moonshine"

"Houston- We have poop!!" After a good feed this morning- he finally did his thing! I don't think I have been this excited about poop since my first daughter was in the NICU and had her first one! He also managed to crawl out of the box last night, so I am hunting through all the boxes, trying to find a bigger(deeper) one for him for now. Thanks for the help, MickyG!!

cute pics Tonya, nice lookin lab ya have there, I have a phriend a phew miles from here with a black lab named Storm, but he's 12 years old and has epilepsy. wouldn't be much of a meal for storm...so I think he'll keep off a cat diet...unless of course moonshine gets in his dish!

Yeah- I think Moonshine would be more of an appetizer for Storm! She just wants to play with him Sooooooo bad! Silly pup! She is 2 years old and is nowhere close to being out of that "puppy" phase. She wants to "play" with the chickens, too!

Sometimes I think that a kitten would be the perfect playmate for Angel, but I realize that kittens turn into cats. Angel isn't too fond of cats since "Uncle Tippy", my pa-in-law's cat, took a swipe at her while we were visiting in Tennesseed...
