This is Sapphire (the little one) and Hoss (the black one). We just brought them home today. They are very skittish, but I am hoping they will acclimate to their new surroundings soon! Like their little house? The wonderful gentleman and lady that we bought them from built it yesterday for transporting and then my son in law added a ramp so that I can milk her while she stands on top, and an overhang to protect them from the rain and I slapped a coat of paint on it. I milked 3 cups of milk out of her today and she tolerated it really well. She has never been milked before. I'm not sure how I am going to manage tomorrow tho, cuz two of my kids helped me hold her while I milked. Like I said, she is VERY skittish! And poor Hoss kept baaaing away, like he was afraid we were going to hurt her. He really looks out for her. They are an adorable couple!

Congrats there DAP! I'm sure they will calm down, and get used to their new home. She should let you milk her soon without too much hassel. If you dont she will be uncomfortable, untill she dries up. So good luck and keep tryin' BTW, they are a real nice lookin' couple.

I'm going to try making goat milk soap~it is supposed to be good for eczema which I happen to have a problem with. Today I need to get to the feed store or someplace and see if I can figure out where to get hay for them. I have grain, but all they have for hay are the weeds there in that pen they are in. They sure are cute. She's about 40# and he's about 70#. They really are devoted to each other.

DAP be careful of too much grain, especially in the male. BKeepr over on KL just had a 5 year old go down and is paying 1200 to have it operated on. He warns not too much grain or Alfalfa hay. If your like me you have already done your homework, just wanted to add this in just in case!

Dap, I am so proud of you! I knew we had a country girl waitin' to break out! Why not too long ago, you couldn't even spell GOAT, now Yas have two! Very good lookin' critters Dap, now ya have to let em' multiply! I wish I was a better artist, I would draw you a picture of the milking station my pholks had, basically a stand, two uprights, a staitionary board, a second that you slid over to lock there heads in, may sound cruel, BUT, the thing is, there was also a feed box right there in front of the goat, so she neva even noticed what you were doing, just munched away while you milked. Dangit, now I want a goat...oh LAURA!!! Oh and Kelly, I was thinkin' this morning when I seen this thread that there was sumpin about hay....just couldn't recollect! Thanks fer remindin' me DAPP.S. Ifin they haven't already, don't be surprised if you look outside, and they are on top yer CAR!!

They sure are sweet! But they are kinda indifferent to me, they'll come up only if I have some treat for them and then they take it and get away again. She hates the milking and I have given up on that already. I just don't have enough hands and legs to hold her still enough not to hurt herself trying to get away! I wish I were handy enough to build the stanchion you talked about Phil, but I really don't have a clue where to start with it. I imagine that'll mean she'll be pregnant again before to long. The folks I got her from said she may be already.

Thanks, crazy1. Actually I found that already Sunday and showed it to my son in law. For the most part, its not bad, but it takes a router in order to make a keyhole for the goat to place head and neck thru. I don't have a router, not to mention I am challenged with the electric drill, let alone a saw. And why are there so many different screws? Need I say more???

I lso agree with that CM! My moms pigmy goats alway ate what the horses did't want. They all had access to phresh hay all the time.

Yeah, I'm finding that's mine too. I haven't bought any hay yet, don't think I'm gonna hafta. They seem to be happy with the grass and honeysuckle. That poor pine tree out there is gonna get ate too! I guess I might need to get some screen to protect its bark, they really like it!! I do give them grain once or twice a day. They didn't want it this morning, tho.

They were happy to get it both last night and again this morning (the grain, I mean). And they are getting more familiar with me. I can get a hold of her now at feeding time, I am trying to calm her down enough to milk her. I hope she doesn't dry up before I make it happen though! She sure kicks and bucks and rears up as soon as I touch that udder. She is so full, she really needs to be milked. Poor little thing. I remember how that hurts!!!!

Here's my babies! They are doing well, getting phat and staying happy! They are taming down, they love their treats and I am working on lead training them. I am hoping eventually I will be able to let them out in the yard with me a little bit when I am out...we will see...I wasn't able to calm her down before she dried up, and I believe she is pregnant now. She'll be having her youngins' towards the end of August begining of September I think. Once she does, hopefully I will have her calm enuff to start milking then!

Oh look! My hubby's buddy built a milk station for me this weekend! It was waiting just inside the front door for me when I got home tonight (complete with the Victoria's Secret ad )!! I can't wait to get her up on it!!! And do you see the little stainless steel bucket down there on the end? My brother made that for me when I told him I was gettin' my litttle goats! Isn't it cute?

We moved Sapphire into the remodeled old shed today, she is showing signs of the upcoming birth of her babes and Hoss is really bugging her now too. I am as nervous as I can be, I've never birthed farm animals before. She and I had a long talk the other day and I told her I sure hope she take care of this herself, 'cuz I am clueless!!! She just said, "Na-a-a-a-a-a, piece of cake!" I hope she's right!!!
