Well, we lost Willie last week to the heat. He just couldn't take it anymore. I had sprayed him down with the hose several times before when he started to get overheated, but this time I didnt get to him in time. I found him dead in the pen, poor soul. He was just chasing the girls a few days before, happy as a rooster could be. He was a good boy, sometimes his hormones would get the best of him and he would think about flogging me, but I would look at him and point and tell him WILLIE.....NO! and he would settle down. He was a lover not a fighter, he would run from a fight, but loved the girls. He will be missed. He was a good old boy, named after Willie Nelson he was.

I don't know about GA, but here in KY it's been dang near 100 for a few weeks or more. Heat indexes in the 110's....It could definitely kill anything that gets overheated.
Poor guy. Sorry about your loss. He's chasing the chicks in rooster Heaven now, he's probably happy.

Hey y'all, and thanks for all the nice comments. When we have the day after day heat of over 100 thats when I worry about the animals. It takes its toll after a while. The girls cut back on laying when it heats up, can't say as I blame them, who wants to pop out eggs when its that hot! I can usually tell when someone is way overheated and needs cooling down fast. They start making a kind of sighing noise while panting. I know its time to grab the hose right then. Come on Fall I say!
