This old maple tree has three trunks, which have grown together at the base. The safest way to drop them is one at a time. If you try to drop them all together they may seperate and fall every which way. Here's how I do it: First I make a vertical cut to isolate one of the trunks from the other two. Then I make my undercut in the direction that the trunk is leaning. Then, for the back cut, I use the plunge cut technique. Plunge cuts are kind of tricky so, if you haven't done one before, you should probably get somebody to show you how. Believe it or not, I learned this skill from the instruction manual that came with my chainsaw. Contrary to what Red Green says, real men *do* read instruction manuals. Of course you have to take all those safety warnings with a grain of salt because, if you took them too seriously, you would be too frightened to use the equipment at all.
