Sacred Heart Soup Diet an article on the soup diet by sacred hearts
What is the Sacred Heart Diet ? The Sacret Heart diet is so named because it was developed at the Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital for people to lose weight fast - usually just before surgery.
Although used for rapid weight loss it should also clense your system and promote well being in general. Additionally you can "eat" as much as you like and most people have lost around 10lb after just one week.
Sacred Heart Soup Recipe The recipe is fairly straight foward and is used of course to make a soup. Have as much as you like when you are hungry. Season as you wish with salt and pepper or with other herbs and spices.
The soup recipe is as follows :
1 or 2 cans of stewed tomatoes 2 lbs. carrots 2 green peppers 1 bunch of celery 2 cans green beans 3 large onions 1 large can of beef broth without fat 1 Lipton chicken noodle soup mix Soup method:
Cut the vegetables into small pieces and place everything into a large pan. Add boiling water to cover the ingredients and boil for 10 minutes. Simmer until vegetables are tender.
Sacred Heart diet plan In addition to the soup there is a 7 day diet plan. Drink as much water as you can. You can also have natural fruit juices, tea, coffee and skimmed milk.
Day 1 Eat any fruit except bananas. Cantaloupes and watermelon are lower in calories than most other fruits. Eat only the soup and fruit today.
Day 2 Is vegetable day. Eat as much vegetables as you can until you are full. Try to eat green leafy vegetables and stay away from dry beans, peas or corn. Eat vegetables with the soup. For your evening meal reward yourself with a baked potato and butter. Avoid fruits through-out the day.
Day 3 Eat all the soup, fruit and vegetables you want today. Do not have a baked potato. If you have eaten as above for three days and not cheated, you should find that you have lost between 5-7 pounds.
Day 4 Banana day. Eat at least 3 bananas and drink as much skimmed milk as you can today, along with the soup. Bananas are high in calories and carbohydrates, as is the milk, but on this particular day, your body will need the potassium and carbs. Proteins and calcium to reduce the cravings for sweets.
Day 5 Beef and tomato day. You may have 10 to 20 ounces of beef and a can of tomatoes, or as many as 6 tomatoes on today. Eat the soup at least once today.
Day 6 Beef and vegetable day. Eat beef and vegetables today - as much as you wish. You can even have 2-3 steaks if you like with green leafy vegetables but no baked potato. Be sure to eat the soup at least once today.
Day7 Brown rice, unsweetened fruit juice and vegetables. Eat as much as you like together with the soup. You can add cooked vegetables to your rice if you wish.
By the end of the 7th day you should have lost between 10 to 17 pounds. If you have lost more than 17 pounds, stay off the diet for two days before resuming the diet again.
Throughout the diet, DO NOT eat any bread, alcohol, carbonated drinks (including diet drinks). Remember, absolutely no fried foods.
*Hint: Take your weight and divide by 2 whatever number comes up, that is the amount of water,in ounces, you should be drinking in a day. Doing this along with this diet, you'll lose weight faster, and feel great! We are starting this diet this week, anyone out there wanna join me? We could do a buddy support check-in!?

I think he should consult with his doctor. Whenever one starts a new diet, one should consult your doctor first. Sorry not much help.

Pholks, I made this soup on Thursday, and did the diet to today. I lost 8 lbs. I would of gone longer, but "Doc Ken" told me to go off of it, cuz I'm losing too much weight with in a weeks time. So it does work, if there is no cheating. Ken lost 6 lbs. But I think he cheated, he likes to much on goodies while driving to work. The soup tastes great I going to make this soup weekly it's that good! I bought all organic veggies at our food coop in Duluth.

I have been making this soup weekly now since I started this "Life changing life style" anytime I'm hungry, and want to grab a cookie or candy, I get a bowl of soup instead. I have kept off the 8 lbs still, and lost about 2 lbs a week, and I'm not even trying! This is the easiest weight lost I have ever done! The only exercise, I get, is belly dancing, and running after my 3 yr.old, and gardening. I hope mre of you will give it a try! It's really good soup! I love it!

Thanks Phil , your bro. has lost 12 lbs. We both feel better and he has noticed improvement with his type 2 diabetes too , like his leg circulation and his eyesight , he has a Dr. appt. coming up in August , so we are looking forward to hearing what the Dr. says. We believe that the diet has really helped with his blood sugar levels , but we are being careful and a little creative with the diet too because of the diabetes. We are happy about the results we have both had so far. Step by step and day by day , but it is all good and we are glad it was shared on here. Have a great day Phil & Laura.

I'm very sensitive to MSG. ( I won't claim an allergy, but it does bother me.) Therefore, I would not use the Lipton soup mix. I wonder if I'd get the same results substituting chicken soup base, and small noodles...!?! Any thoughts from you who have experienced the soup?

Songbird , that should be okay , you shouldn't have any trouble doing that at all. With my fiance' and I , we have been creative with the diet , but stayed as close as we can within the guidelines because he has type 2 diabetes and we still lost weight and plan on losing more. Best of luck to you if you decide to try it out.

Thanks for the response!
I do believe I'll try it! I was gonna wait for my tomatoes to ripen, so I could freely eat them on the tomato days, but that's probably not wise... I need to get started!
So, have you also added other veggies to the soup as well??

I haven't , but I imagine you could add other veggies to it . It does help being creative with it though. Like on the banana day , I make a banana smoothie with some milk a little ice and a cap or 2 of vanilla extract , yummy . On the chicken days , I like using Mrs. Dash garlic and herb seasoning .and I will cook it in the oven , either bake or broil and for the steak marinade , I use 1/4 cup soy sauce and 3/4 cups of water and also season with Mrs. Dash for 1 hour total , but I flip it over after the 1st 30 minutes. I use a cast iron skillet and turn the oven on @500* and when it shuts off at that temp ., I put the pan in and let it get hot , then pull it out and put the steaks in it . Sear each side for 3 minutes and after searing take the pan out and turn again and put the oven on bake still at 500* and put the skillet on the center rack and bake each side for 6 minutes then enjoy . You may need to adjust your bake temp depending on the type of stove you have and your time also depending on how well done you like your steak too.
On the veggie day , sometimes I will just make a large salad , enough for the day and use like a salad spritzer for the dressing. I hope those ideas will help ya.

I've added cabbage and yellow squash to the soup. I'm sure you can add any type of veggie you want. I ,too would think you could make up your own "soup mix" that doesn't have MSG in it. Let us know what you come up with. I don't like MSG either. I might check out my Food co-op to see if I can find an oraganic soup mix. I'll let you know what I find out.

One more thing about adding different veggies to the soup. I would stay away from Peas, dry beans, and corn. As it says to stay away from them. What I do is I stay on the diet for 1 week then I take a break for 1-4 days then I go right back on it. On the days I am off the diet, I eat the peas, corn and dry beans. They taste so good when you haven't had them for a week!

Yeah, they are comfort foods high carb! Your recipes and suggestions were great, ghost stomper. We don't run the oven much in the summer, though. It makes the A/C have to work too hard to keep this ol' house cool!! I love my iron frying pans though, and I definitely hear ya!! MickyG, let me know if you find an organic soup mix. We have a Coop here. I used to belong, but haven't been to a meeting for years.

Thank you songbird for the compliment and you are very welcome. I certainly understand about the A/C.
If it wasn't for MickyG , my hubby and I wouldn't have lost what weight we have so far if it wasn't for her sharing this diet with everyone on here.
I am wishing you the best of luck when you do go to try it.
