We have been gettin more eggs lately.....3 or 4 a day......even durin our real cold weather we would get 1 or 2 a day. We only have 6 hens and most are pullets and all free range.......no hen houses, they roost in the trees and only cracked corn for feed........all are game or game x bantam......tuff birds.

Ours have been good about laying during the winter, but have started hiding their eggs.... We were getting 6 a day(5 from the RIRs and a tiny one from the bantam hen) and now I can only find 1 or 2 a day.

If your birds are free range they are hidin their nest so no other hen will lay with them and they will go settin. If other hens keep layin in the same nest as a hen settin she'll be lucky to hatch off one or two of them eggs.

Not sure if they are trying to set or not, but just found a nest this morning in an old sink that needs to be hauled off. We lost our bantam, tho. I think a hawk got her. There are no feathers, nothing and she was too skiddish and FAST for a dog or a cat, I think. Sucks because Mackenna loved her eggs.... they were so darned cute!

Could be..... I hate that she is gone. She was cool to watch Anyone want a duck? Quatro(our Muskovee<- may be spelled wrong) tries to mate with our hens and has them just about bald on their backs from "riding" them He has GOT to go....

I think she is setting somewhere. She won't let me get close enough to her(ever) to check for wounds, but she seemed fine. Kinda frantic for food, so she is probably just setting. Babies hopefully coming soon!

Well- I finally found the nest Wonder Woman was sittin' on. Little sneaky bird was right here the whole time If my calculations are right- if her eggs are gonna hatch- it should be any day now....as in possible tomorrow!! I hope they were fertile! A full sized rooster can fertilize a bantam egg, right??

I caught her off the nest today and counted.... 13 eggs and one of them is making noise!! I don't think I have been this excited since I knew I was in labor with Mackenna and I was about to be a mommy again If I can find my camera(don't even ask) I'll get some pics of the little cuties once they hatch!
