This is by LUZ,now called something else. They used to use parabolic mirrors to heat the fluid to make steam to run the generator, but now are using cheaper flat mirrors. The old system works good,we have em here. The new system, even better!Looks like the latest plant will be built real soon, kudos! Parabolic mirror system The new system BrightSource energy uses its Luz DPT 550 technology to mass solar power into clusters that can Luz Heliostatproduce 100MW of power generation. ... ... "The small mirrors utilized in the Luz DPT 550 technology, known as heliostats, are much simpler to manufacture and less costly to install than the parabolic mirrors BrightSource Luz technology used in solar troughs. Like a sunflower, the heliostats follow the sun in two dimensions, enabling them to achieve a much higher efficiency than other solar thermal technologies. Each heliostat is individually installed and controlled, resulting in greater flexibility in site configuration, and requiring much less site preparation. Luz DPT heliostats are organized into a solar field, known as a Solar Power Cluster (SPC), which consists of thousands of heliostats sharing a common power tower. " ... Look at these alt energy plants we have here www.industcards.com/solar-usa-ca.htm

Cool. I just got a letter from my electric company. If I pay $7.50 more a month I can get some of my electricity from wind power therefore saving on fossil fuels. Uh..... HELLO ? ? ? It should cost LESS then ya dumb arses!

Wrennie you are a hoot!! We tried to get solar for our home a few years back when NJ was offering a rebate of 80%, But the companies that were installing the systems would never return our calls to come and set up an appointment. The final answer was the state was taking to long to reimburse them. Now that the state refund has expired there are more companies offering solar then I have hair on my head...but we have to pay the full cost of some $40,000.00. I would have to live to be 90 to recover the expense with the savings. It's a great system and I am all for it if it becomes affordable for us, If I were in my 20s then I wouldn't hesitate to do it now. As far as the major utility's are concerned. They should be doing this full course none stop, as well as all major industries and educational facilities.

spuds: Looking at that web site is inspiring I think Ill send it to our governor so he can see how a real state operates on energy conservation.
