Phil, I planted Italian parsley in a container clear back in April, and they've barely grown to a height of maybe two inches!! What am I doing wrong? Do they require special soil, or special treatment? I thought maybe they weren't getting enough sun, so moved them into my garden, but they just seem dormant!

Song, I made some mistakes with my parsley too. I started my seed way late,(last year)..They take a very long time to sprout. So, I didn't get it out when the temperatures were cooler, it doesn't like hot summer weather and should be planted where afternoons are shaded. In some areas it grows very well through the winter and into the following spring where it will continue until summer heat causes it to flower. Then, I planted it Too Deep,The center growing point can't be covered with soil. This will rot the plant very quickly. Outdoors in the yard/garden, plant it where it gets about 4-6 hours of morning sun, and water well Once a week, indoors, or in a WELL DRAINED pot, Keep the soil moist but not soaking wet.

Okay, that may explain it. I had it in front of my house where it didn't get sun until evening. Now it's in the garden and is getting sun all day. I'll move it to where it gets morning sun and then shade. The container does drain well. they arent' dying. They just arent growing!

What is Italian Parsley?
Does it differ from flat leaf and curly leaf varieties?

What is Italian Parsley? Does it differ from flat leaf and curly leaf varieties? Yasmin xx Italian is flat leaf parsley. Re: songbird's photo. It looks like the soil in that tray is too shallow. IIRC, parsley has a fairly long taproot. Germination is greatly improved by soaking the seeds overnight in water. Parsley, both root and leaf, grows well in any good garden soil in full sun, at least here in New England. JT
