I bought some of these, took some scrap wood and plexiglass mirrors and came up with this This consumes only about 2w putting out light power close to a 40w bulb. It is hooked to my solar panels. I'm building 2 larger units for my livingroom, should have pics in a day or two...

If it is done right, they can put out light power close to a 40w bulb using only 2-3w of power meaning they can be ran off a 12v battery all night with no problem. If you cannot find plexiglass mirrors, you can still use peg boards with holes already in them. Just cut the size you need, and paint them the color you like, place trimming around them with glue and your good to go. Remember, the more LED's you have, the brighter it will be...

Looking good Doug! It would go a long way towards a better understanding of the whole solar energy thing if everybody made a simple light to use in emergencies. I'm talking solar cells, storage batteries, and a light for at least one room. You have to start somewhere.

They work great consuming a small fraction of what other bulbs use. I use light switches in the wall with wiring coming from the batteries in the basement..

I think one of my kids friends may have stolen it and it was a Christmas present
