I'm hopein that too digger. Do you plant your onion sets in between your taters? We do, always have good luck with both taters and the onions. Our garden has pretty good drainage so if it is wet we'll just wait a day or two. 30 lbs. That must be why you're called Digger

ya but that is just a start on the taters, the main planting will come the end a May. Never have put sets with tators but they would make a good row marker for em. Grow several hundred pounds of tators every year. Got a bunch a different gardens the big one is still wet but this one is first to be planted every year.

On the whites we like to let them heal. Alos the golden yukons and russets. The reds we just cut and plant. Have so many for seed it doesn't matter if a few rot we just replace em. Do have a 5 gal pail of reds cut so they will heal for next planting. Looks like most of the rain went south of us so back to work and fixing.

Pullin' weeds is how the kids get ice cream money, and you're right it is work watchin em so they don't pull the wrong things

i have raised beds. I don't have weeds.
therefore, I don't work in the garden.
Does that mean I don't get any icecream???

I saw on Farmer's almanac that people have good luck planting potatoes in deep containers... Have any of you ever tried that? I bought five pounds of Irish Cobblers to try. Just trying to figure out where to put them. From what I read, they like acidic soil! How come you all have such good luck just throwing them on the ground and covering them with mulch??

I planted some potatoes in a black garbage bag and they are growing, never did it before so wanted to see how well they would grow , then I planted some 17 days ago in my garden and they have not came up yet. Am thinking they are not going to grow .Really am disappointed .Last year was a new garden and last year every seed I planted grew so I don't understand why this happened, I figure since the bag of taters grew so the seeds were good.

Some times they take a while to come up Mary. So don't give up hope. Mine have been in about 10 days, and nothing yet. But they will come up. Good luck with your garden this year.

ary, tators should take up to 14 days to come through, how deep did you plant them, tell us a few of the details, such as your average teperatures of late and rainfall amounts..where are you living? what zone?

I planted them a couple of inches deep ,there have been some chilly nights, in the upper 30s , its warming up some now.We have had a lot of rain . I live in central IL. zone 5. I went out and looked today and saw that some were just peeking through .My land sets lower than my neighbors on both sides so I picked the highes place to have my garden and last year it was ok because we didn't have as much rain. We've had over 4 inches so far and tomorrow more rain is expected.I need to have raised beds like you Phil , but I'm afraid the dirt would wash away. Maybe enclose them with wood or blocks.
