We've taken surveyor's tape... and hung huse strings around the garden, when the wind catches it , it will blow here and there.. birds don't like it.. We place it around our berry patches and we think it works. We also use pie plates (aluminum) hung near the garden.. And as a last resort, being that we love birds around the place, is that we placed all the bird feeders far away from the garden..

I believe they are after the cabbage worms! I have seen small birds go down and come up with one, why they'd eat your cabbage tho, I can't say. Scaring them off by any means usually does work...at first! Then they become quite used to it. I believe the trade off is fair, they do me more good than harm, of course, I have no Idea of what type of bird problems may exist in Spain! so tell Us more

If nothing else works... dress yourself up in a checkered shirt and blue jeans, stick a little dry straw in your sleeves.. When the birds come close to your garden. start by waving your arms and scream like a chicken....

To post pics you have to link to a server like 'photobucket.com. You can sign up for storage space. It is free. I believe there is a writeup else where on this site as how to do it. I will look for it for you.

Don't worry biscombe, thats how we all learn. Just ask and one of us will be able to help you. Is it possible for you to post a picture of yourself in the "PHORUM PHAMILY PHOTOS' section in the 'PHORUM PHAMILY' area? That way everyone will know what you look like. All of us have posted our pics there, to give you an idea of what we look like here on the phunny pharm.

Damaged music tape cassettes have lots of useable brown tape--blows well in the wind. Old pinwheels tied on a string or piece of yarn and hung from a branch work well on sparrows. Or one of those little princess wands with the plastic ribbons hanging from the top--sometimes cheep (sorry) at garage sales. Birds are the reason most of my stuff is under frost netting until it is over 3" tall.Otherwise I'd never have anything grown in the garden.
