Picking out a good Christmas tree can be a hard thing if you don't know what to look for Bend the needles to see if they break or bend, a good tree will have needles that bend and is a sign that the tree is not dried out. Watch out not to pick one with fake paint covering it. Pick up the tree and bang the trunk on the ground to check for falling needles. A good tree will have alot of spaces for hanging ornaments. I was told to add sugar in the tree stand with a tad of bleach but found out this method doesn't work well at all. The sugar plugged the arteries and I found that the tree would slow down on the water intake and soon I began to loose needles. Used filtered water or distilled water without all the chemicals that come through the tap that can in time plugged the arteries :at:

I bought my last fresh tree in the evening after work about 6 years ago. I was so mad the next day when I went to put it in its stand and decorate it because I discovered it had been spray painted. I went out and bought my artificial tree following Christmas that year and have stuck with it ever since.

well, a friend has a little four-footer that his ex left with him, and he doesn't want it... My husband drove the 10 miles in the snow to go check it out. I may have my first fake tree any minute now...

I know this is after x-mass. This year, as we were looking for a wreath at our favorite nursery we noticed several small trees in a pot, some decorated, some not. We asked about them. The lady said that they were just tops that they had made up for table top trees.
Then she asked if we wanted one w/roots that could be transplanted. Of course the answer was yes, so for $35 we got a spruce, 4-1/2 ft tall.
It was used as the Christmas tree, and will be planted at "The Place" later this spring.
