A question was asked on a chicken message board I frequent. The question was, "Do You Remember Your First Chickens?" Well that spawned a lot of memories. Since I am a picture nut I have many pictures from a couple of years back to the current ones I have shown on here to y'all. So, I thought, why not start from the beginning. So her goes. Here are picture of my very first chicks. I was OBSESSED! Love these girls the most still today. Their names are Sunshine, Nugget, Little, Popcorn, and Sweetie Pie. There was a sixth, her name was Miss Prissy. Sadly I discovered too late not to use hay in the brooder as they will eat it. They have no grit in their crop yet to grind it and digest it, so it went straight through to the other end and got stuck. I tried everything to help, mineral oil in moth ends, to no avail, she died. But, I use pine shavings now, NO hay! EVER! Til they are grown!

I can see why your obsessed, they are adorable. I don't name mine, I just call all of them baby. That way if anything ever happens to them or if I ever had to kill any of them to eat I won't be eating ........., ............, ........., . Trudy

This is a picture of my daughter and Sweetie Pie in Petsmart. Now we lived in the city, very populated area, so, imagine what it was like bringing a chicken into a pet store! There are always people bringing their dogs in, every now and then a cat, and I have brought the rabbit which turns some heads because he is so big, and the iguana will startle a few folks. People didnt know what to think, they asked if she would bite them! LOL! I assured them I didnt have a vicious chicken and they were welcome to pet her all they wanted. She enjoyed the ride in the buggy, never tried to fly out or anything. The other is my buffs and speckled sussex enjoyed a nice cold half of watermelon in the summer, boy do they love watermelon!

Love the pics KellyG! I really like the one with your daughter in Petsmart! I'll have to try that this summer, would be funny to see the peoples faces seeing a chicken in Petsmart instead of a dog or cat!
