9 days with no power or water, but ya know what pholks.....i ain't complainin.........my daughter's family was with us cause they had no heat.....so, i had all my baby's here....they got on our nerves from time to time, but all was good.......we ate well cookin on our camp stove....got water from the creek for the toilet, washin off and doin dishes.....drinkin water came from our neighbors open well and our doctor let us use his clinic to shower.......he said we could stay there, but it's hard to sleep on an exam table We used our coal-oil lamps, candels and flashlights......the kids had battery powerd games, so that helped alot...plus we had the radio and read alot durin daylight. Alot of the days we could'nt get in or out of our holler cause the road was too bad and when our freezers started to thaw we had one hell of a eatin......we invited our neighbors and friends that could get here to chow down with us.....so, the SIL fired up my old ugly smoker and the party was on we cooked about 50lbs of all kinds of meat...chicken, pork, beef and dog's burger's....you name it....but we still lost alot of our meat......oh well, we'll restock as we can. Here's kick in the ass.....SIL went to Wal-Mart and bought a generator...big'un...5700 watts....could'a run the whole place.....damn thang would'nt start.....china made piece of sh%t. All in all it was'nt as bad as it could'a been........so, did y'all miss me

We sure did miss you around here Cavey! Glad you're back!! Sorry to hear about all the meat you lost. That is a big bummer!! You should've charged $5 a plate for the food you cooked and you could restock sooner You are a good neighbor for sharing with your neighbors. I bet they were happy you were there! WELCOME BACK!!!!

9 days is a long time, but I know that you bro, be cut from the same cloth as I am,, and we'd get by if the power went off...and never came back on...hell when I lived in Arkansas in my teens, we had a log cabin, no electric, no running water, no gas...we heated, cooked with wood, oil lamps, and gathered water, water cress and Bathed in the stream..IN THAT ORDER I can tell ya one thing, that darn creek was COLD even in the summer, when ya dove in ta rinse off.. Thats why I admire the Amish way of life, they ain't never had the modern convenience, and if it all went to hell, their way of life would pert near go on seamlessly... How many pholk nowadays could make it without power... not many... ain't sayin I'd want to...but know I could Glad Ya'll made it through, wishin I was there for the feast.... Thing about walmart is they TELL the manufacturer what they will GIVE for x amount of a item, in this case generators... So they say X amount of $$$ for 1000 generators... Way below what the is asking... So, the manufacturer says ok... KNOWING that in the warehouse, they have 800 generators.. and in the corner they have 200 "B Grade, seconds" or questionable generators... he ships 1000 generators... Thats why Walmart don't give you any Crap when you return an item...

I have lived without power at times when ours would go out as a kid. LOVED it! I think the only thing that would drive me nuts now is the kids being bored. I think I may institute the same thing I read here somewhere here about turning off everything and going back in time one night a week. I think it would be good for them. I could make it with no power and all. I sure would miss y'all tho!

I actually enjoyed all the Togetherness for a change. No one could get out of the Holler so everyone had to get along ..hehe around the 4th/5th day we did start to nit pick at everything each of us were doing but we still had some very pleasant thing to say.. :gdnt: I wouldn't have cared at all how long it took to get the Electric back on, But I felt so bad for the KIDS.. They are soooo stuck on Movies/DVD's that it killed them. The Critter and Tater Faught like cats andDogs then even while having two V-Tech V-Smiles, "Best Money We ever Spent at Christmas time", They still would fight over just one Cartridge. I can't get over that. They have like 10 games but still wanted to fight over just one.. Can't figure them out at all.. Yes sir, I cooked my Bigg DerryAire off, when the Food in my little freezer started to Defrost, I Said, HELLLLLL No, I'm not loosing it completely, I'll bring food door to door to all our neighbors if I have too, But NO Way Was I letting it go to waste.. I couldn't charge anyone for the food not after all the Store around us were Jacking up the Prices on everything to make a profit off of this Disaster. I'd rather see people enjoy the food and NOT Have to spend their money on food when the Karosene Prices were crippling everyone, along with many people going to all these fast food places when they could get out. I'm just glad my Money didn't totally go out the window, At Least I fed everyone with it instead of throughing it all away.. Then I would have been PO'd .. We lost some Fresh Hog meat that was a disappointment, but Saved our Hog Ham, Fresh Corn from Summer and all the Deer meat we have.. which I'm happy about.. If I had to I was going to Light the Smoker up again and Cook the Hell out of all that. The only thing I really really had withdrawals for was the COMPUTER.... O god we all were for that..hehe

I remember as a child when the power would go out, I really enjoyed it. We had an antenna, so the TV was out a lot anyway. But we would light a fire in the fireplace and light the coal oil lamps and sit and talk. Daddy and Mommy would tell stories of when they were young. Me and Mom would do latch hook. And my nephew, who was raised with me would play with hot wheels or something. We had a wood/coal stove, so Mom cooked on it. It was some great family times. But I have to say, my son would probably get bored pretty quick with that stuff now. He is so used to TV and video games, etc.
