Jon, Harry and I took a walk across the creek and up the logging road behind us today. I was looking for morels, still no luck, but I did get some nice pics! Here's one of our house from about half way up the bluff on the logging road. Ok, so it's our garage. Our house is there, to the right- I promise! Here are some at my favorite spot to sit and escape. Here's another pretty pic nearby- And finally, a pic of the beautiful turkey tail mushroom (well some of it) that I found and harvested today.

The other day, just Harry and I went for a walk in the lower woods on the other side of the creek. We followed a deer path through the blanket of little fairy flowers and really enjoyed ourselves. We came upon this tree that had a younger version of itself growing up right against it- about 6 feet off the ground, a branch about the thickness of a broom handle was growing through the eye socket of this deer skull! The cheekbone was cracked and brittle enough that I could just pull it off, so I did.... You can see where the back of the skull and where the antlers were was gnawed by something. I just thought this was really cool- imagine how long it's been there?!

Cool pics. We walked through the woods the other day and found a skull too. Not sure what it is. I should post it here and see what others think. Our find wasnt nearly as cool as yours though. Growing right through the socket huh!?!? Wicked.

We really do love it here, there's just so much and this is exactly th elife we want for Harry. I wish I would've gone back to the house for the camera to take a pic before removing the skull....

If the skull was six feet off the ground, somebody put it there. The branch may have continued to grow after that, but the tree did not lift the skull off the ground. Trees grow by adding new growth to the top and ends of branches. Only grass and related species grow by pushing up from the ground.
