That was a surprise, especially as I've not been around just lately - apologies for that -.
Ok having consulted my lawyer I refuse to answer on the grounds that I may incriminate myself ;D...ahem... here goes....
AGE.....? Currently 50 but I will be 51 on the 24th of this month.
MARITAL STATUS/FAMILY....... In view of the previous answer, Young, Free and Single would be a misrepresentation but the last two thirds are still true. I don't live alone though as my parents live with me (not the other way around as it's my house!)
WHICH OPPCLP MEMBER WOULD YOU LIKE TO MEET OR WHICH ONES HAVE YOU ALREADY MET...?.. Well since I live in the UK and the vast majority of the Phorum phamily are in the good old USA I have not physically met anyone. That said if the opportunity ever arose it would be nice to meet Phil and Laura as from what I have learned since joining the phorum they seem to have a very good lifestyle and that garden is just something else!
HOW HAS OPPCLP ENRICHED YOUR LIFE?...... I have a morbid fear of flying, not that I have ever flown, and recent health issues mean that that is now probably less likely than the remote possibility it was before. I don't even own a passport and have only spent a total of twelve hours outside the UK (on a day trip to France in 1980) in all of my almost 51 years. Despite that I am very interested in other countries, especially the USA and Australia (where my cousin lives). I hope I'm not making the Phorum sound like a science project, but despite it being unlikely that I will ever find myself in your country it is fascinating to see how you live your lives and also to find that you are growing pretty much the same things over there as we grow in the UK. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO GROW.......... In terms of vegetables probably Runner Beans - what you call Pole Beans(?) - as they are so easy to grow, take up very little room and yet produce such a large crop. This year has been particularly successful in that respect and some days we had 4 pounds of beans from two double (8 foot) rows. As far as flowers go it has to be roses as the fragrance is divine and the plants flower for such a long time. I still have roses in flower now!WHAT IS ONE ITEM YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT!?....... Family has to be number one of course but aside from that the Internet is probably the one thing that I would miss the most these days as I rely upon it so much. It's strange to think that I have only had a computer at home since February 2001 but I would be lost without one now. Internet banking, shopping, arranging house/car insurance, you name it, everything is done online, and I am also set up for online billing too so without the Internet and of course the PC I would be lost. Even so it is a little sad to think that I have become so dependent on an electronic device that I managed quite happily without for many years. Having said that if it was a choice between owning a computer and having a nice garden I think it would have to be the garden.ONE THING YOU WOULD OWN IF MONEY WAS NO OBJECT?..... A large house in a secluded area of the countryside with plenty of land and also access to a private beach. Probably in Cornwall if it was in the UK as I have spent many happy holidays there. Then again if money was really no object I could have a place in the USA too, and travel there by ocean liner and train! ;D Oregon sounds nice.IF YOU COULD GO ANY WHERE IN THE WORLD WHERE WOULD IT BE?... Notwithstanding my flying phobia, it would be nice to visit the USA and maybe Australia and New Zealand. What I especially admire about the USA are the traditional values and the way that everyone seems to work together for the good of the country, which is sadly much less apparent over here these days. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE RECIPE... Cooking is definitely not one of my skills so least said the better. IF YOU WERE A COOKIE, WHAT KIND WOULD YOU BE... Ahh! The question that so vexed our Prime Minister recently. ;D Probably a good old (fashioned) plain digestive biscuit. WHO'S YOUR FAVORITE SPORTS TEAM AND ATHLETE...?..... I'm not really into team sports. I hate football (soccer), have no interest at all in cricket, and could possibly just about sit through a grand slam tennis final but only if I had nothing better to do. On the other hand I do follow Formula One motor racing which I suppose is a team sport. Within that genre it would have to be 2009 world champion team Brawn with McLaren a close second. That said I don't think that F1 drivers count as 'athletes' so as far as that goes it's probably Tiger Woods at the moment and a close tie between Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson and Nick Faldo among the former great players. Did I mention that I liked golf? ;D I was actually a member of the local Golf Club for twelve years from 1978 but gave it up as work commitments at the time meant that I wasn't able to play enough to get my money's worth from the annual fee. WHAT ARE SOME HOBBIES YOU HAVE?.... My number one hobby has to be gardening, which I have been interested in since I was around three years old when I used to 'help' my Grandma on her allotment garden. I have been an active gardener since I was fourteen. Apart from gardening I also enjoy reading when I get the time and although I prefer modern fiction (Tom Clancy is a favourite) I would like to read some of Charles Dickens' work which, slightly embarrassingly, I have yet to achieve. I also like solving crossword puzzles, especially cryptic ones as they really make you think. Finally I suppose the Internet has to get a mention too. Apart from my Phorum membership I am a member of several other sites, and have been an administrator on another gardening forum since August 2006. I also like watching videos on You Tube and listening to music either on CD or mp3 and online radio stations, especially The Breeze which broadcasts from Wellington, New Zealand. WHAT ATTRACTED YOU AND KEPT YOU INTERESTED IN OPPCLP..?.... I joined following a personal invitation from Phil after he had seen our own forum link on the Proboards Support forum. I received a very friendly welcome and that convinced me to stay. Even though I have been something of an infrequent visitor just lately I still feel as though I am part of the community.YOUR TURN ON FOODS......TURN OFF FOODS....? Turn on foods? Fillet or rump steak and come to that any beef cuts (apart from ox tail) chicken breast, ice cream and any cakes and puddings that my Mum makes. Turn off foods? Fish. I used to like fish but I went off it completely in my late teens and now I can't even stand the smell of it. Chicken! Specifically any part that isn't chicken breast! Also cranberries which I now have to avoid for medical reasons but as I can't stand them anyway it's no hardship! FAVORITE COLOR................ I don't really have a particular favourite these days. As a youngster it was red and later blue. I still like red and blue but also green as well. Having checked my wardrobe I think it is safe to say red, blue and green! ("I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure" etc. ;D ) HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH YOUR SCREEN NAME?.... This came from the eternal frustration of wanting to join a trivia quiz website in 2001 only to find that every single name combination I had thought of was already taken. After fifteen minutes of this and on the verge of throwing the PC out of the window, I hit on the idea of grabbing a book out of the bookcase and leafing through the pages at random until I found something suitable. As luck would have it I had picked up a book about US Navy warships and the page turning stopped at the Spruance-class destroyers. Thus I became Spruance as it was both easy to remember and also fitted the eight character username limit on that first website. It is also usually accepted at the first time of asking on other sites so I have tended to stick with it as I am hopeless at thinking up new user names. So there you have it M'lud. Guilty or Not Guilty?!!

Great answers Spru, and thank You..It'd be a pleasure to meet you too! Now, I don't FEAR flying..done it once, a small plane .. guess I would say If I'd been intended to fly I'd been born with wings... Science project..may be nearer da truth than Ya know... I think that the term would be studying... I do that too, traveling anywhere with a click, a computer armchair tour I most likely will never even reach the coasts of the U.S.A. I we most of Us use back woods slang... and yet you decipher it, but if we ever leave you wondering what the heck we're talking about...just ask Sooo, that being said... What the heck is a "digestive biscuit"?? I'm assuming we wouldn't cover that with sausage or squirrel gravy I am curious to know what the Prime Minister desired in a cookie?

Sorry Phil I didn't realise that 'digestive biscuit' didn't translate well. Digestives are a semi-sweet wheatmeal biscuit, and are very popular over here..... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digestive_biscuitI'm not too bad on US colloquialisms, although I must admit to being caught out sometimes. As for Prime Minister Gordon Brown, he recently made a guest appearance on a popular internet forum called Mumsnet and answered questions on a range of topics but despite being asked no fewer than twelve times he would not confirm what was his favourite biscuit (cookie). Mr Brown has a growing reputation for being indecisive and this did nothing to dispel that.. Here is an article from the Daily Mail newspaper's website... www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1221180/Biscuitgate-After-24-hours-dithering-Gordon-Brown-finally-confesses-favourite-dunk.html

Thanks Laura. If my understanding of the word cookie is correct then biscuits are the same as cookies. I suppose biscuits would mainly be sweet, as savoury biscuits might best be described as crackers. Cookie is not really used much at all save for chocolate chip cookies which are biscuits containing pieces of chocolate. Whilst on the biscuit/cookie front, I have to admit that I have only recently found out what Oreos are, as they have recently been launched over here. There is a scene in the Clint Eastwood movie Every Which Way But Loose where Clyde the orangutan has eaten all of Ma Boggs' Oreos. Well having no idea what Oreos were I wondered what an orangutan might like to eat and reasoned that Oreos were probably some kind of fruit, perhaps like oranges?! When you come to think about it, it's funny how many different local words there are in what is after all the same language. Over here for instance someone might go into their butcher's shop and ask for a nice joint for the weekend. Whereas I suspect that the same request in the USA might get you arrested! A joint in the UK is a cut of meat that you might have roasted. Then there is the expression that I always find amusing. The one about needing to 'go to the bathroom'. Which conjures up an image in my head of inappropriate use of the sink since that is the only place in a British bathroom that might conceivably serve the purpose required. ;D There are loads of websites on this subject but this is quite an amusing one.... www.effingpot.com/ ;D Anyway as it appears to be nearly 02:15am I guess that it is past my :gdnt: so I will bid you all goodnight.

Congrats to you, Spruance, on being MOW! I am right there with you on the fear of flying. I've done it 5 times and hated each one. I have a cousin in Germany that begs me to fly across the pond and I cannot get myself talked into it.
Thanks for the explanation of the cookie/biscuit mystery. I too had no idea what a digestive biscuit was. Your Oreo story gave me a good laugh.
It was nice to meet you. Have a good day!

What is even stranger is having a video call via Skype with someone in the USA and having them take their laptop outside so I could see their garden. This was by way of a favour so that I could advise them on planting two roses!

Fish and Chips and Mushy Peas is a very popular takeaway meal here in the UK. Not with me though as I don't like fish or indeed mushy peas either come to that. ;D Chip shop chips are nice though. Not to be confused with your Potato Chips which we know as Crisps. Unless of course you would prefer a packet of Pork Scratchings!
