Well, we've had chicks before but this is our new life and we're just starting out again. We ordered Black Breasted Red Kraienkoppes Flame Jaerhon La Fleche Speckled Sussex blue &/or buff Cochin Colored Dorking
And I can't remember if we ordered Delaware &/or Mottled Java. I ordered neither, actually, the other one that I couldn't remember was red pyle Cubalaya. All together we ordered 50 chicks, half arriving tomorrow (possibly still this week but maybe not until the first week of May) and the others in June.
We're also getting our ducklings the first week of May! We've never had baby ducks before so that's exciting. We're getting Silver Appleyard Black Cayuga and Penciled Runners

YEah, 50, I know it seems like a lot. BUT, think of all the surplus roosters and about all but 2 breeds are dual purpose so that's eggs AND meat . I'm only getting about a dozen ducks- same deal though- except for the runners.

We got our ducklings this morning! The mostly yellow ones are the Silver Appleyards, the yellow and black are the Penciled Runners and of course, the not so photogenic black ones are the Black Cayugas. The runners are proving to be the most rambunctious and entertaining so far- they're a bunch of clowns!

I think geese and ducks are beautiful when grown, with the exception of Chinese and Muskovies....

We got our second batch last week, didn't wind up getting the Kraienkoppes this year after all- they just weren't hatching for whatever reason. And now eveyone else is out and about, except for this one- we call her Mama. She does what Cochins are known for but at her young age, it's a little odd. She stays right near the new chicks at all times. Here are some more This is one of the Cubalayas, it's turning out just so pretty!
