We got our first American Guinea Hog gilt this weekend! Her name is Fanny and she rocks. Here she is, just a little thing- only about two foot long snout to tush. She LOVES dandelions! I love her little wrinkles- especially on her face!

Fanny has finally warmed up to me and knows her name- she comes when called. She took no warming up to Harry- they loved eachother the instant they met, she follows him around like a puppy!

OMG. The pics of Fanny and Harry are great. My boys want pigs. But as always, they want some as pets. Daddy says no...if we get any they will be for eating.
Great pics though!

Fanny is a purposeful pet. We'll be keeping her and an American Guinea Hog boar for breeding to help keep this breed alive AND for eating. They are the perfect small family/homestead hog, can thrive on pasture and are great lard/bacon pigs. They only get up to 200-300 pounds and don't really top off until 2-3 years old so they're slow growing which is also great for us. We're also planning on keeping another sow (crossed heritage breed) for somewhat larger and faster growing offspring. So we''l have three pet pigs.

Fanny is officially spoiled and loves it. She gets little piggie massages and rolls over to get her belly rubbed. She goes for walks with us even. Here she is following Harry to the back creek- And taking a dip-
