I have not been on in a while but we had new neighbors. They moved in with 5 horses, a donkey, a bunch of dogs, a bunch of chickens, cats, and a goat. There was an aunt and uncle, a 14 yr old boy, a 15 yr old boy, and a teenage girl and a 4 mo. old baby. The house has no water and no electricity. Not even electric wires. Rogues had already stripped it for copper. They ran the roads all day and night or at least the woman did. The 14 yr old came around visiting everyone in the neighborhood. He missed us the first day,so when he did come we were ready and Hubby went out on the porch to meet him. We as always went up to Mom's to fix supper and he followed us. he walked in and out without knocking. Hubby told him, he had to knock on the door. When we got supper done, he started rt in after Bub, Hubby told him he needed to go home, he had been gone for hrs and his family would wonder about him. Then he wanted to use the phone a couple days later to call long distance. Hubby told him no but he could use one of the cell phones to call. They went from house to house using the phone calling long distance. Well, it was bad enuf these kids are in their care and they have no water or electric, but the animals started going down. We went on vac. and came home, we didn't see anyone there for 4 days, the animals were tied up with no water and no food. We went to a local deputy and he said he had already called and the law had been out but they had to catch the people home. So, we came home and Hubby called the state police. The next day, they came and took most of the animals. 2 of the horses have already died. They got 4 horses, a donkey, a goat, 7 dogs, 2 cats, and 4 goldfish in an aquarium in the yard. Why would you not give those animals away or call the shelter? They wanted to sell the horses and goat. Anyway, the animals are out of there.

Geez, what a shame for the children and the animals. Seems pretty clear they don't care about either. Hope they move on outta your neck of the woods.

People like that with no heart at all , have no business having children or pets , they need to be ashamed of themselves. I will keep the children and the pets in my prayers . Sorry to hear you are having to deal with people like that.

We haven't seen any of them except the woman the day after they came and took the animals. I hope social services steps in and takes the kids and puts them in a better place. I am happy the animals are outta that situation.

It made front page of the paper, the man and woman are both facing 18 charges. They came and got some furniture out of the house a couple days ago. The horses went to a man who keeps them on a strip job in summer and at home in winter. Can only hope the other animals found good homes. They didn't expect 2 of the dogs to live but I pray they did.

Thanks for the updates , my heart and prayers will still go out to the animals and the children . As for the so called man and woman I hope they get everything they deserve coming to them and more , because anyone like that I have no tolerance for.
I agree with crftychk13 the world needs more people out their to help protect the abused and neglected . I also believe Lucy that you and your family were the childrens and the animals guardian angels too.

There is still 15 or so chickens that need a home. A boy up the road wanted them and tried to catch them but he came in the evening and brought a dog. Poor little fellow. I wish someone would come take them and care for them.

Do the authorities think of chickens as LESS of an animal? Or was it just some sort of over sight on their part. They havent come back for them, but they took the others? Odd.

Catching chickens can be easy. Watch them in the evening and they will roost on a low branch (USUALLY a low branch). Yopu can just pick them up as they sleep. I find them with a flashlight first, and once I know where they are starlight is enough for me.
And, if your fumblings wake them up, they cannot see well in low light and so they cannot avoid you.
My own hens used to get out from time to time.

I don't know why the authorities didnt take the chickens unless it was because they were there early in the day and couldn't catch them. I think I will call again about the chickens. They need a home. They come up here and my poor baby "Jack" won't go out to use the bathroom. I wish someone who knows to come at roosting time would come get them.

I WOULD come get them, but, I suspect that you do not live in Kansas!
Chickens are lovely: in the winter when the garden shuts down I get "hen fruit" instead!
