Have you ever grown pumpkins on the tap roots alone if the stump gets infested? I would dig for the critters but I'm afraid I'll make all mater's worse I'm prolly the only one in my area growing these types of vines so I'm a perfect target for them I covered it up and my vines are starting to really take off now in spite of the SVB's working against me. I'll been killing every one that I find I haven't seen any cuke beetles this year so far

Sometimes I think we can't win for trying but who knows what will happen later on, I'll keep working with them to see what happens

Doug, I don't know if that will work, the damage will be great! go to the Drugstore, find a diabetic, go to the farm store/veterinarians office, whatever Bro, get a syringe and a needle get something strong, inspect the wound, try to find where the damage stops, and pump the stem full of insecticide, I , in this case recommend diazinon, or liquid sevin. Drastic times "calls For" drastic measures!

There was a pumpkin grown over 900 lbs. out east, that grew with just the tap roots after the pumpkin hit about 100 lbs. There's a grower in CA, this year, that is growing now on just tap roots, and it's been putting on over 30 lbs. a day recently. It's currently around 400 lbs. It's amazing what these plants can do!
