It was just an innocent pollination job, I'm sure. The bee's do it as well, but Phil either wanted to make sure(in case the bee's were elsewhere), or he wanted a controlled cross, so the genetics of his seeds are known. Doug

Oh My gosh, so that's what y'all were talking about? : : Now I wish we had a smiley for being embarrassed! So next year, when I am growing my first gient pumpkin, I have to know how to pollinate the pumpkin flower? Can the bees just do it, or is it better to pollinate the flower yourself?

Well if you do it yerself you can have pure seed for next year, but if the bees do it you can never tell what they will be next year

Ah thank-you for explaining that Doug! Now I understand! I have so much to learn about gardening, and now growing giant pumpkins.

Laura or Phil, Does it look like the pollination was successful?

Yes it was a success Doug, However the blossom was reluctant to open, and I had to do it the next day! But, Laura got her first this morning on the beachy F21 hybrid, she said it had possibly 10 lobes! It was a biggy, but was about to open last night,so she caught it early this morning. I think she had 4 cooperative males on the f21 to use.!
