Not too sure about da poison thing, but if you can phind where he is in the vine you can cut a slit and nail the lil !@#$%^ right there on the spot and cover the vine again. I spray each leaf stalk up and down every few days to kill the eggs before they hatch, they hatch about 5-7 days after layed, not sure what else to tell you I tried injecting stuff in my vines one year and made all matters worse and killed my plant all together

How do you know you have one early? I have a small pumpkin plant that has a slight yellowish color in a spot at the base of the main vine. Is this a SVB or is it just where the plant is bending over for the plant?

If you see wilt on the leaves, I mean sad lookin wilt. Look at the base of the vine. If theres a hole with snot lookin stuff commin out you've got SVB . Also look to see if the vine is bent real hard, like crimped, that is probably the reason. oops, Thanx Phil and Doug fer teachin me.

Well done bro, couldn't have said it better myself should look like wet saw dust oozing out from da base of yer plant, season for those egg laying things should be near over in the middle or end of next month Some pumpkin plants get a yellow color in the vines later on in the season when a fruit is set

i split the vine and found 3 of them, then i destroyed that part of the vine.. do you think i got them? or are there some further down the line??? i've been diligently burying the vine as it grew, i can't see unless i dig it up.. it's roots are in deep because it's been so dry.. i looked a little farther down and that part of the stem looked ok but the leave are yellow and droopy right over the spot where it is rooted in the best..

Thats the best thing you could do is destroy that part of the vine What I look for is brown spots with a hole on the leaf stems where the eggs hatched and they bore into the leaf stem and werk thier way down to the vine, if you see this then uncover that area and look for signs of mushy saw dust, sometimes you can catch them before they reach the vine and just cut that one leaf off

they were in the main vine but i listened when you told me to bury it and mulch it.. now hopefully the SVB's are gone, it will rain at least two long slow soaking inches and all will be right with the world

SVBs got to all of my squash and zucchini plants, and several pumpkin plants, all before they could issue a single flower. I have a couple of somethings (zucchini? it's more of a bushy vine thing, growing up, not out in one main vine) left, but I'm not sure if they'll be able to resist them, either. UGH!
