i'm about to display my punkin' ignorance...the pictures where you mention you are going to pollinate appear to already have pumpkins growing from the flowers...i would think that any pollinating would need to be done before the baby pumpkin begins to appear...what am i missing?

Nope, if the baby pumpkin doesn't get pollinated, it will rot and fall off, just like humans and animals do every month, not saying that in a bad way

Doug, that is sooo interesting...are there any other garden crops that work the same way? What about watermelon or cantaloupe, both of which are difficult for me to grow. Pumpkin is a squash so do all squash work that way? In my elementary grade gardening lingo, I always thought that the bees had to go from a boy flower to a girl flower and then the fruit appeared. I haven't had much summer squash this year...maybe i need to be doing something except lookin' at um....

Bees are fairly reliable if you have them, but with hand pollination your chances are greater. Melons werk the same way but but the flowers are smaller, I had success doing that with them

Coming along fine. How much you reckon it now weighs? Mine dried up in the 100F + weather. We had 12 days in a row above 100F and 23 total days this year so far. I have not had rain since sometime in June. The cracks are getting wider and deeper. Wishing for some of this
