Most of you know I work with plants all day for the nearby City. Its gardening on asphalt basically. Challenges everyday in conditions unlike at home. We have 13 sidewalk beds on the main street 3 different monuments in the middle of the highways, 1 being a 4 lane This is the County Courthouse we took over the grounds On all 4 corners of the 4 lane are containers and baskets, the petunias should have died in June, but there hanging in there, it had just been watered and the blooms are laying down from the weight of the water. Notice in the median, lots of trees, roses on all the light poles all over town One more container trudy

Ah Geez, thanks yawl. There are only 5 of us total in the dept. The head man, me and the carpenter/plumer/handyman. Just hired a new guy just to keep the City Cemetary grass mowed. Other than that I occasionally get a city inmate (trustee) from time to time. We have a retired part time guy that does all the watering daily. Time Magazine recently wrote an article that Eufaula was the best place to retire in the US. So I've been told. T

Thanks again, I am lucky to have a job messing with plants all day. Down side is the heat in the summer and the cold in the winter. But it is rewarding and they will tell on ya if you neglect them. lol.
Song we have roses on most all the light poles, each road has its own color scheme. Also have 3 rose gardens, 1 being a Memorial Garden for the public to purchase a rose and we take care of it from there. I am currently working on a self guided walking tour thru the cemetaries arboritium. One day it will be finished I hope. We mostly have the OG/Antique roses which are so much easier to manage than the new hybrids. If ever any on you get the chance to come thru give me a hollar and I'll give ya the grand tour. T

I don't know what your temps are right now, or if it makes much difference but you can lay down some plastic where your wanting your new bed to be, weigh it down with some bricks or anything heavy. Leave it in place for a few weeks so the sun/heat an bake the weeds, seeds, grass. Once everything is dead you can amend your spot and plant. Just make sure you mulch good to help keep weeds, grass at bay. trudy

I am thinking "up off the ground" !! Wouldn't have to worry bout weeds too much !! But I may try something small.
