Sure good lookin garden. Wish our field corn looked that good. It is all drying up. About a month ago I thought for sure the farmers would get a good crop this year. That is two years in a row. Thanks for posting the garden pics.

Thanks you guys! I really felt like I was fighting a losing battle when my peas died and my lettuce just sat there, but i guess you've got to find what does well in your part of the country and go for it! I might try peas again in the fall...

I have tried peas two years in a row and not had any luck. Maybe when it cools off, this fall, I'll give them another try. Maybe they need cooler weather.

When the cob feels full, or the racoons get to it, then its ready Song. The silk will be brown and dried up usually.

Thanks, both of you! I do believe I have a few ears ready to pull! Is it best to do it in the morning?? Also, will the stalks form any MORE ears, or will this be it??

Pick it early in the mornin' Song. It will be sweeter that way. When the sun hits the corn it turns the sugars to starch, then at night the starches become sugars again.

What you see on the stalk now is what will be for the season

What kind of corn did you plant? Sounds like "Country Gentelman"

I'm embarrassed to say, I don't know, and the package is gone, but the kernals are both yellow and white.... Ants have drilled a hole in the side of a lot of them, and are eating away at the tops. Also some of the rest of them are starting to get dry-looking white blotches on the outside of the husks. I don't think some of them are ready yet! What should I do?? Pick them anyway?

Gidday
I know I am showing my ignorance here, got plenty of it too, but I have noticed in a lot of photo's from others as well, your veges seem to have a fence around them. Is it to keep something out or what?

Mostly deer... Some people fence for wild rabbits. Down here in the south we have problems with armadillos.

Yellow and white kernals sound like peaches and cream.

Peaches and cream doesn't ring a bell, but they sure are sweet and good!! All their kernals didn't develop in most of them though, and i don't what I could have done different! A hungry neighbor from the apartments behind us help them selves to a whole row of the best ears one night. All i can say is I hope they enjoyed them! As fer the fence, it's mostly to keep out rabbits in my area, but the one around da corn now is to keep out neighbors!!
