First off, please hang with me as I learn this posting thing. Cherokee Sweets, our local name for our onions because they are a sweet onion. And grown in Cherokee Co. Texas. We just finished planting 12-20-2007 There are aprox. 36000 plants. All went great, received plants one day and had them planted the next. And it rained on them the next day, not a flood just a nice slow rain. Now how cool is that. Believe me it does not happen like that often. Being growers I am sure you can relate. OK here goes, trying to post a photo. I am over joyed, I did it, now if I could do the same with my Blog I would be super happy. ChileFarmer

We really don't do a fall garden. It is just time to plant the onions. Come spring we will pull and bunch some with green tops. The rest we will harvest and sell as dry onions. They don't keep very well being sweet onions. so it is a short time deal. Planting, It took 10 hours with 3 people to plant. Thank all for the nice comments. We have some hard freezes but the little plants are already putting up new shoots. CF

Christy, the onions were planted in December. In our area we plant onion plants. I don't know how the onion bulbs would do. When I lived out West (Nevada) we always planted bulbs. CF

And another crop finished for this year. The onions did really well. We managed to sell most of them so far. Still have a few. They will be taken to Dallas or Houston market. I hope to have them ready in the next couple weeks. We have been fighting weed and grass in the Chile fields. After we planted it rained and got behind on the plowing. CF
