Shell Beans These beans are much like a pinto, only here most people want them fresh shelled. We have planted 150 pounds of seed, all are up and growing. Weather man says frost likely tomorrow night. So we will be spraying them tomorrow for frost protection. What we spray will be a polyfilm it works (or at least it did last year) I hope we don't need it. CF

Just a note to say we did spray Sunday. It was 33 degrees this morning (Monday) had some frost, but we came out OK. One more night to go. Will be in the lower 40's tonight. Then warming to the 50's CF

We can't get it to dry up here enough to plant anything. We were under a freeze warning last night, but it didn't get as cold as they thought it would. I raise several type of shelly beans.......Cranberry shelly, blue bloom ( which I have to save the seeds for), solider beans, kidney beans, and red beans. Your beans are absolutely beautiful. Good looking ground also. I'm jealous.

Well Ya'll, the bean harvest is over on this field, It produced 105 32 pound sacks. Not bad, and sold them all at $17.00 sack and they picked them. Made me happy. CF

Can you tell me the name of those beans please? From your description it is the kind my dad used to plant when I was a kid. He's gone now, and when I asked mom, she called them "horticulture beans". Thanks!

Your Mama told you right. Taylors improved hort beans. Some might call them French hort beans. My area they are called fresh pintos. They really don't have anything to do with pintos. The ones I planted this year are supremo variety, seed came from seed way seed co. CF

We plant early and harvest early, the bean we plant won't take the heat. When it warms up they fold up. CF
