This is the second attempt. I have a smaller garden near the house and decided this year I'd put in a bigger one out back. Unfortunatly I chose a bad location, and after 7 inches of rain in 4 days, it was under water. So I moved a bit farther up the rise, moved the pasture fence and started over. This is 80x40 ft. I've mulched between the rows with grass clippings. Now I just wait and see if anything sprouts. Cathy

Thanks everyone. I had hoped there would be more progress with the garden by now, but it looks about the same. I'm still learning how to grow things here in SD. My yard garden is doing well, this is the third year for this location. The peas are full of blossoms. We've had a couple of nice rains this week, so maybe that will get things sprouting in the big garden. I'm getting more motivated to get to work on the greenhouse. I had plans last year, but then our son moved out (he was going to tech school) and I decided to gut the two story section of the house instead. After five years I don't have much left to do on the house so I'm getting some outdoor stuff done. Cathy

Weeding, what's that? After dealing with a serious weed bed the first year, I decided to mulch the garden. I let the grass on the yard grow long, then cut it with the mower. After it's dried enough I go back over it and bag it up and spread it on the garden. I mulch my flower bed with cocoa bean shells. When it rains it smells like chocolate!

I've not wanted to share pictures of my garden - too embarrased! My husband has been working out of town a lot, and I'm finding it hard to take care of the place all by myself. I finally got out and got some weeding done! Got about 1/3 of the garden. It's raining this morning (YEA!) but should clear up and I hope to get more weeds pulled. At least it should be eaiser after the rain. The good news is I have lots of green tomatoes! Cathy
