I have very few bugs this year, the problem I have is deer eating my beans and tomatoes. Last year I sprayed ( Liquid Fence) about two or three feet outside and all around my garden and it worked, this year its not . I also planted marigolds and petunias around my veggies.I don't want to spray it on my plants.I have two dogs , one was a very good watch dog but is getting old and the other one might if the other one barks, he wants to stay inside all the time.I wonder, maybe last year it was the dog and not the Liquid Fence that worked.

I would think it was the dog Mary. I've never heard of the liquid fence working all that well.

When you find something to rid of earwigs let me know. The little buggers are eating my petunias and cholias.

For earwigs- I have an old organic way to plant protection book, it says use four bamboo pieces about a foot long, each piece open at both ends and tie with nylon yarn into bundles at both ends.Lightly paint them with a green paint, and when they are dry ,put them under bushes, against fences and any other place where earwigs gather, leave them a few days, early one AM shake them out of the holes into a bucket of hot water??Never tried this, hope it helps.

Also Diatomaceous earth is a safe and effective way to control earwigs!

Hey, I heard that when you and your family members get a hair cut, ask to keep your cut hair.. Collect a bunch and Sprinkle around your garden to keep the Deer and maybe other little pesty animals away. the deer smell the Human and they stay away, or bypass where the hair is... I know a few people who do this. You've got nothing to loose but some Hair....LOL

Ya know Cavewoman, I gots a buddy in Missouri, me home state, that to get to his place, you take ona dem minimum maintenance roads, till ya run outa road, and take the trail to the left! Now, he is surrounded by soma da best deer country there is in those parts. Twingst him peein' around his garden, using hair he collects from the beauty shops, his ol' dog and an occasional shotgun shell, he is dern near critter free.

Thanks you guys, will try the hair, not sure about the peein,It would take me a long time to make a difference, my garden is good size.As for the gun there is only a BB gun around here. Its so hot and HUMID the dogs want to be inside, can't say I blame them, temps are in the mid to upper 90s.

this may be wrong thread to post this but what I have used and only thing that has worked for me is placing glass bottles part filled with water around the garden to keep deer, rabbits etc out of garden was told that most deer and rabbits are nite feeders and the moon will reflect off the bottles and they think there is another animal in garden and stay out--------------sounds kind of hookie to me but it dose work and dosen't add anything bad to garden, safe around kids and pets---------give it a try

I found a huge squash bug on my squash today, first one I've seen all year so far. Can I go on and plant radishes around the plants and have any luck? or did that need to be done before?

GGreat post about plants to repel bugs. When I get to the library, I'll print out two copies, one for me and one for a new gardener friend in another state. Thanks, thanks, thanks.
