I need to got through my pantry and empty out some canned goods (I canned) that have been there to long, can they be put into the compost pile? Ex: are some salsa, peas, and last years dill pickles that didn't taste good. If so should I drain off the vinegar from the pickles first. Although they didn't get eatten I'd like to think they can be used in the compost. Get some use out of them. I can't see using up this space any longer, plus I can reuse the jars. Is there anything I shouldn't put in there? I know not to put in meats and dairies. Thanks, Trudy

We throw almost all our excess stuff from canning on the compost pile... We never have thrown pickle juice on the pile thou...
Everthing else has been thrown on the pile...

I throw pickle juice on my compost. It doesn't seem to hurt it.

nope vinegar is an acid that help the soil break stuff down. good for the compost pile.
good for things that ail you like indigestion, gall bladder, and some pesonality disorders like Crazy. Maybe he needs a gallon or two.
