Was wondering if anyone has heard from Jack down in New Zealand. Heard that they had a bad earthquake, magnitude of 7.1. Hope he and his family are OK.

Ive Been wondering about Jack since I heard the news report last week, I asked caveman the other day if he had heard anything and he told me he hadn't but was thinking about PM him, but if there isn't any power he can't communicate with us. Just have to hope for the best and see what happens, I guess the good thing is that he is close to the coast, I don't believe they were as effected as inlanders.

Gidday I have a bit of an insight as to what it is like up there in Christchurch cos my son lives in Brooklands where it has been hit fairly hard. His house is damaged but when the sewage is up and running again it should be livable almost. The only door in the house that can be opened or shut is a sliding external door. Our son is a volunteer in the local fire brigade and although his house is damaged a bit he has hardly been home cos he has been out with the brigade helping others. The streets are a mess though. Our grand daughter one the street outside their home. www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/image.cfm?c_id=1&gal_cid=1&gallery_id=113682#7074689We live about a 4 hour drive south of Christchurch and it was quite a shaking down here but no real damage. On this site you can see a bit of detail about the quake and it's after shocks, which are actually causing a hellava lot more stress than the one big one cos they don't seem to stop. www.geonet.org.nz/earthquake/quakes/recent_quakes.html

Jack: That was one heck of a mess, looks like the road dropped a good three feet by the looks of those man holes. Glad to hear everyone is good though. I hope your son has Insurance on his home, sounds like there is some major structural damage. Have the after shocks subsided yet? I hope you guys get some aid to help pholkes get back to there homes. Is there a way to send contributions such as clothing, food or money to an organization there? Let us know please.

Gidday Thank you all very much for your concern. It is very much appreciated. The aftershock seem to be doing a bit more damage and sure are rattling a lotta nerves. Take a look at this site, if your browser allows, and you will see just how shaky things are, considering it is an area that used to be almost earthquake free and they didn't even know there was a fault line there. www.christchurchquakemap.co.nz/#

Jack: I just visited that web site. That is absolutely incredible. Watching that reminds me of a bomb run, all those quakes! We are certainly lucky here in my neck of the woods. NO QUAKES!! Just a lot of NYers.
