Back around 2003, I met a woman on a horse forum who, turns out spent many summers at a resort in the next small village to the south of our farm. She and I had much in common; horses, knitting, loneliness...And struck up a friendship that spanned these next 8 years.
As time went by, I moved away from the area which was the original spark to light the flame of friendship. And a year ago, she made plans to move home to PA.
We finally met last May. We picked a town that was halfway to meet. It was just a few hours of lunch and shopping, but it was wonderful to put faces to the nicknames after all these years.
In January, her emails and online posts became fewer. I thought it was just due to an increase in Social activity with old friends. When you have realtime friends you don't need the web as much I suppose?
Hubs vacation came; we went on a trip. After returning home last week, I spent a few days playing catchup online and got to wondering why I hadn't heard from Suzi?? I checked her facebook page....First shock, then disbelief...She had a bout of flu in late January and it seems that she was never to recover from that. She passed on February 9, 2011.
Thousands of people pass through our lives here on the internet, but a few stay with us for eternity.

That is very sad Blue, so sorry to hear that... Yes, I agree, you meet many online, some, become as close a friend as a neighbor, sometimes even closer! yet you may never meet them, others come and go, you know you'll never meet... And then there are those You do meet, and yes, it's very nice to put a face with a name.... At our Phorum Bash a few years back, a lot of Us here got to meet, amazing how close your "image" of them is to the actual person!! May your friend Suzi Rest in Peace

Thanks Everyone. I don't normally mention much about happenings in my personal life, but this week is turning out to be a tearjerker. I received a phonecall last night from a former neighbour who while awaiting a decision on treatment for a Brain Tumour, now has a lump on her face and it's been identified as Lymphoma. She's holding up remarkably well; sounds positive about dealing with this. I'm not.... She goes for a second opinion today with a Specialist. I hope she has positive news tonight regarding her options. My husband tried to make light of the situation saying "what are you doing to your friends?" Whatever it is, I wish I wasn't.

I have many internet friends, some being very close and long time friends. I have several that I receive email from each day. I to lost such a friend. I was shocked that it affected me so much, although we never did meet in person. I am very sorry for your loss. CF

Aw Chile, Sorry to hear about your loss.
I haven't heard from my g/f yet since she went to the surgeon. I'm thinking this isn't a positive sign. Perhaps I'll run errands first and gather the nerve to phone her and ask how it went? Hoping it's just a sign that they haven't made a decision yet.
