I have dialup as many of you do. And I have been with the same co. for 12 or more yrs but I pay $17.95 and it is limited to 160 hrs a mo. which has been fine up until Bub got a Facebook acct and started playing games, we went over for the first time ever. So, I pd it and gave him his daily limit. Which we've not went over anymore until last month which it was like $1.09 extra. That I can handle. But I have the option of going thru Hughesnet, which is hi speed by sat. I only have to pay $45. no hook up fees and no contract but it is limited to 200 megbytes per day and then it slows down(or so I was told). If I cancel I have to return the equipment. I ordered this in Jan. I am scheduled for Sat. the 12th. But then my cousin's wife called our local telephone co and they told her it would be anytime we would have DSL here. But I called today and she told me they would sent someone out to see if I could get DSL. Do I go with Hughesnet until I get DSL or hold off? My neighbor has Hughesnet but she had to pay $400 to get it installed and pays $80 monthly and if she goes over 3 times in a month it's $5. But there is a Gov. program and like I sd I won't have to pay the installation and it's $45 a month and they told me if I go over it slows down to like dialup. I'm lost. Help!!

Ok, now I have had all 3 and this is just my opinion!! 1rst- Dial-up sucks, just too slow for games, and in my case too slow loading pictures! 2nd- DSL, was great and fast, until we started noticing our bill was getting bigger and bigger every month and they couldn't explain it? 3rd- Hughesnet that is who we have now, our bill is 80 bucks a month and we love it, but now I have never went over so I'm not sure how that works, sorry can't help there! But the only drawback to this is the weather, if it gets stormy enough it loses it's hookup just like satt. television. Hope this helps?

I have hughesnet, used to be directway. It is much better than dialup by far but cost me $80.00 mo. also. I have never heard of a hughes program without contract. haven't heard of a $45.00 mo. plan either. If you pullout before contract is complete, will cost you. Hughes is much better than wild blue, another satellite co. If you go over your usage plan with hughes, it will slow like dialup. But you usage will refill in 24 hours or you can replenish for $7.00. If I had the chance I would go with DSL real quick. Here is a link to a satellite forum on hughes. CF www.dslreports.com/forum/sat
