I saw on here last year I think, someone had posted a picture of how they stripped their tomato plants of their leaves from the ground up about a foot! I'm wondering about that. Can't remember why that high, but I do want to prune mine, as the lower leaves get in mud. Can someone remind me of the ins and outs??

Song we trim off any limbs or leaves that are within a foot of the ground to prevent splash-up from the soil...thus preventing disease... take a good clean knife/scissors or just pinch them off...I'd dip my utensil in either a bleach solution or milk between each plant to prevent any problems too afterwards, a good layer of mulch, any type will help too

Gidday
Down here we trim all leaves up to the bottom truss of fruit so that the light can get to the fruit to help ripening. The old leaves become quite hard and apparantly they don't do much good at all.

Ok, thanks.
....MILK phil? Hmm.. does it have to be whole milk?
If i use a bleach solution, is it a very weak solution?? I would think that in itself could do damage...any milk..2% would be ok ... with bleach, I just add about a tablespoon to a gallon...or a half a tablespoon to a coffee can 3/4 full of water...ya just need enough to dip your cutting tool
