Kentucky bill would allow 'cow sharing'

FRANKFORT — Families who want to drink fresh raw milk without buying their own dairy herds are backing a bill to sanction "cow sharing."

The practice lets people buy into a herd and share the resulting milk, cheese and other dairy products. Proponents say raw milk is more nutritious and delicious.

We actually owned a "share" of a milk cow up here in MI for a while (since it is illegal to sell raw milk). We sold our share a couple years ago due to the drive (about 45 min from our house), but have since considered buying another share. We basically drove to the farm each week where we'd fill our own glass milk jugs. We were getting about 2 1/2 gal a week. The milk is raw, organic, and delicious.

They also had a lil store there where we could buy raw milk cheeses, as well as grass-fed beef, free-range chickens, eggs, etc.

We made our own butter too! Never had any problems. It was a small, family owned farm. Comparatively small herd (versus a mega farm). I'd be leery about getting raw milk from a mega farm. Our friends do the same thing - but they get their stuff from the Amish by where they live.

I personally hope that bill gets approved

Here in mass you can go to any farm and get raw milk .. I love it .. I have my little glass milk jars down in the basement for when I get the urge to go down to the farm and grab some to try and make more cheese which last time was an epic fail didn't quite have everything I needed to make it successful

I was raised on raw milk...as far back as I can remember...I did OK
as with everything... the fact we can't get raw milk in many places goes back to the fact that without these now standing "laws" the government would miss out on their cut
