Thanks Pharmer Phil Need Ideas pharm phamily. Did you grow a plant that you think the children or adults should grow? PLEASE SHARE THE PLANT WITH ME I'll try to get the seeds or trade out with you for the seeds if you have more. Have an idea you think would be good for our classes or gardens, please post it ,this is not MY garden ,it's the communities! My son-in-law,daughter and I made the fish emulsion 3 -5 gallon buckets of it~~~ and 3 buckets of seaweed emulsion. We stir it once a day for the next 2 weeks and let it rot down in the sun This is our recipe we made FISH EMULSION: 1/4 BUCKET LEAVES WHOLE ROTTEN BUNCH OF BANANAS,CHOPPED PEEL AND ALL 1 CHOPPED CANTALOUPE(fruit is suppose to deodorize the smell, well see) 20-chopped mullet with guts out and scales off to help them break down faster i hope now we fill it with water leaving about 5'' from top and stir for 2 weeks After that we strain out all the stuff left, add Epsom salt and molasses and then use in the garden as we plant or to water with HOMEMADE SEA WEED EMULSION RINSE THE SALT WATER OUT OF THE SEAWEED PLACE INTO A 5 GALLON BUCKET ABOUT 1/2 FULL,ADD WATER STIR DAILY FOR 1 WEEK LEAVING IN THE SUN LID WITH HOLES DRILLED INTO ON STIR DAILY FOR 1 WEEK . STRAIN OUT SEAWEED,USE TO WATER WITH. At class April 9Th we will hand out bottles of each for their use at home and teach them how to make this. April''s class is on HOMEMADE PIONEER FORMULAS for the garden to fertilize and for insect control. We hope by teaching them BEFORE we install the community gardens By August of 2012, it will prepare them so they don't feel like a frog out of water in the garden's. I have broke the gardens into zones with zone leaders(Shepherd's). I will instruct them on what the goals for that work day is and then send them to their zones to lead the "garden tenders"under them. I'm also trying to find a leader to take over for me just in case I end up back in the hospital or go home to be with my father(Jesus). I don't want this to die if I'm gone.I want to teach, train and have it thriving with or without me.

Well we are day 4 into the 2 weeks of stirring and the rotten fruit is helping the smell ;D you can add sugar as well they say but I wanted to stay natural.
Got a few more signup's for the classes last night looks like 3 more are on board so that brings us up to 28 if everyone really comes. One is a mail lady and has offered to take our class and community garden info on her route and pass it along!!!!!!!!! Slowly it is all coming together!!!!

Yesterday I walked the land the gardens will be on and prayed for God to bless the ground, protect the land, equipment, gardens ,people, and for his presence to come and dwell there. I invited Jesus to hang out with us,walk beside us,speak to us,renew our minds with his words and scriptures, and songs of praise as we garden. I invited him to send hundreds that never knew him and his awesome power in and for their lives and to reveal himself to us as we garden, learn together, grow out healthy organic food for the people in hardship and for the people who tend the gardens. May his blessings pour out into our gardens, land, talks, projects, grow outs. I feel so privileged to be alive to do this and now know why at a young age I became a leader(president) in my 4-h club, president of my FFA class, and had such a hunger for gardening. He was preparing me to take all that teaching, learning, hunger to know more and curiosity for growing and preparing me for this project. I also now know, this is my purpose, one of the many reasons I'm still alive. I THRIVE TO SHOW HIS PEOPLE ALL THAT HE HAS TAUGHT ME!! :grth :I LOVE TEACHING!! I'm working on a deal with a local health food store to get coupons for the class coming up in June on healthy cooking with fresh vegetables and fruits.I want to get people to buy local. I want to set up incentives for them to get deals as a reward to local buying and networking together.I want to teach them how to bargain, net work, help and well as receive. Next week I'm reaching out to local food stands and garden stores for more deals. If we can bless each other and our community, that's what this is all about! Beginning to get info on the legal red tape of going to another country and installing a garden, irrigation system and seeds that i want to do in 3 to 5 years.Take our seeds,go and bless another county. Also starting a group to begin the work of making our own seed stoorage system. god is giving me many things to look into but i also want to be well prepared ahead and get the right people into the right projects! One day at a time, one project at a time, one step at a time!

I made up 35 Easter baskets by taking a pot that was donated from NURSERY SUPPLY INC, IN KISSFLORIDA (they donated 180 grow out pots,6 and 12'' for the gardens and classes and fund raisers! Anyway, they are blue, pink, brown, green, and white. I took twine and poked holes into the plastic on each side and tied them off. we are giving a seed packet and seed plug to each child and they can use the" basket" for the easter egg hunt. Just another way to let the community know we are here and getting involved in many area's to bless them!!

Ya know pharmer phil,in the future i may well go around with a slide presentation of our project and try to inspire other church's to get involved in their communities growing out food for the widows, military families with a parent out of state,hardship,inbound,handicap.... My hubby and I love to travel today I'm headed up to the church to GO GREEN I got to thinking ;D why use plastic Easter grass in the baskets?? We could shred paper and then they can use that to mulch or put into the compost pile It's amazing the Ideas god is giving to me!! stroke brain and all Anyway, looking into worms now,my red wiggler worm man went out of business !!! Man are they expensive,I'm use to $3.00 for a quart of them Holly cow,we may have to wait awhile, bummer it is so hard for me to wait but who knows i may go worm hunting in leaves and such, use to in Michigan. Speaking of worms here's a recipe for ya all : Jay Mertz of RABBIT HILL FARM IN CORSICA TEXAS he says this goo is great for tomato's and watermelons,I will be giving it a try in our gardens i want to do a grow out of 1/2 fish fertilizer and 1/2 worm goo I'll call it 12 cups earth worm castings 1/4 cup of Epsom salts place both in a bucket mix well plant 1 cup(or an 8oz. yogurt container full) mixture in the bottom of each transplant hole as you plant tomato's and watermelons yield 12 1/4 cups or organic worm goo. the dirt will come tomorrow as there was a hitch in getting it today I wish i could help rake it out but my body just won't let me

Ya,me too!!! The fish emulsion is almost all done. All the big head of fish floating around are gone The fruit is all dissolved, the scales and guts are all liquid. The leaves are almost all disintegrated,I'm shocked I thought there would be a whole lot of matter left? The seaweed emulsion the same, almost 3/4Th's has dissolved into green liquid. Next batch I'm taking photo's My son in law is now in the Florida Key's soooo I'm grabbing every fisherman I know at the church and bless their hearts one by one they have said they would keep their fish guts, heads, and tails for the community garden. We will hand out pails to them with TIGHT LIDS Next i want to get the Church kitchen to compost the food scraps. Wednesday night we serve meals to the church family and community, you don't even have to go to our church to get these meals so now we need to compost those scraps and coffee grounds. My hubby stops at STAR BUCKS on the way home every night and gets the coffee grounds. We are putting them everywhere on the compost,in the gardens sprinkled around the plants,in the fish emulsion i just read about that, and bagging them up to hand out at class for those who can't or won't take the time to go get them. THANKS TO STAR BUCKS OF PLANT CITY FLORIDA!!!! They faithfully save them for us today is DIRT DAY,Pastor Scott and a few other good men may not like me as much tonight They are getting the 20 yards of free organic dirt from MOTHERS ORGANIC HUMUS FARM and!!! :)2 loads of organic compost from BUSCH GARDENS for our personal gardens.I say personal but it all ends up mixxed up with the grow outs and ministry gardens. Yesterday i traded my typist fresh vegetables for her family For doing the typing i can't be good at everything and for sure as you all can tell, typing is not my gift and computers really are not!!!! Transplanting 50 more tomato's plants to hand out at April 9Th class for grow outs. Keeping records on everyone and they will be taught in a separate class how to grow out for seeds.Teaching how to bag the blooms and such. Rita put an awesome link to a seed packet template lances.i got the Easter ones for the children's Easter baskets,so see farm family your helping hands are in Florida in a community garden project!!!! The advice, help, links, all help this project to come together, many minds are better then 1 Thanks you so much everyone for your help I could not do this as well with out all of you Today I also go to see if i can get a sponsor for the irrigation system,If you are reading this, pray God provides this cause so far products have came in but no money. Speaking of which hopefully next Sunday after the preaching is done with a full church i can give a plug to the church for donations of Items needed and $$$$.God willing,I'll do it!!

Also got a phone call and the pastor was interviewed by: IN THE FIELD FARM MAGAZINE on our community garden, they then called me and we talked for a while. Should be out in the May 2012 edition!!! pharm phamily, look what God is doing, what an awesome God we serve!!!! So for any of you that want to add to the hydro think tank,I'm all ears!!!! also found out the humus farm makes coconut seeding soil!! He's giving me about 50#'s of it to try out. That will save us the shipping cost of buying out of state!!

What a day, finished the Easter basket and all the seeds and such in baggies for each one. Went to Lowe's and priced out the irrigation system.Wanted to know the pressure from our well at the church Had to make a quick call to the church!I thought i had all the information i needed Then how many heads,i count 40 right, humm he say's how do you know that if your not sure about the pressure from the well and how many unions there will be and then after i get all that info,a timer. But at least got a general idea to pitch a sponsor with. Any way Lowe's man was very helpful and some customers standing listening were as well I think in about 3 days the fish emulsion will be ready to be strained, add black strap molasses,Epsom salts and coffee grounds.(wish i had worm poo) Anyway, need to bag up the coffee grounds to hand out at Monday nights class, bottle the fish and seaweed emulsion to hand out and make copies for the class hand outs, and finish the tomato grow outs and get the seeds into labeled seed packets to hand out to the people signed up to grow out plants to collect seeds. Then am scheduling a group tour for MOTHERS ORGANIC HUMUS FARMS. Need to also hold a class just for the grow out folks and teach them how to bag blossoms, keep really good records, take photo's,and collect the seeds proper. All this needs to take place over the next week and 1/2. Praise God i love doing this!!!! It's so good to work in what you have true passion for Because even tho it's crazy busy getting this all started I'm still having fun and my hubby and children just put up with me and often help! I am so blessed!!!!!!!!!!

My typist LORD BLESS HER SOUL!!!is typing up the class handouts as I write this to you. I invited another community garden to come to Monday's class and get involved in grow outs if they want. 4 families have already started grow out projects Angela-herbs Andy and Sara-sweet corn and more varieties to come James-several varieties of tomato's and some summer squash Leeann-all kinds It's happening folks!!!! It's been busy folks. Ended up making 89 Easter baskets for last Saturday's Easter hunt.I think we had about 8 left! they were used the next day at another Easter Egg hunt so they are all gone! Been working on next months class,Container Gardening and Have some great projects to do. Also been working on the bylaws and a pamplet to hand out to the community. Word is getting out and we have been getting calls everyday here at the house and i believe we are well on our way to many volunteers. The response has been even better then I thought. I am amazed everyday at the hunger of God's people to learn how to organic garden!!! Request are pouring in about 14 so far for Morning classes so starting next month God willing i will start morning classes also. The people signing up are so exited about our program and I'm so exited to be able to be a small part of it. I think the community as well as our Church are off to a great start. What a God we serve to work this all out and provide the people, plants, seeds, supplies, little by little it is all coming together. I have full confidence this is going to turn out well for everyone. I continue to hand out seed grow outs to families and places to grow out our seeds for next year. I'm very exited to see how this project turns out I love to see the joy in the faces as people get their seeds and can't wait to grow out.I remember well my first seed grow out about 25 years ago and the excitement to be a part of a grow out! I hope to have the gardens self sufficient and trading seeds by 2015.We are never guaranteed to get seeds so this is a safe guard I want to have in place plus everyone should be learning how to save seeds anyway. We handed out 14 bottles of fish emulsion in Monday night class and several bags of coffee grounds. Everyone got a laugh out of my disclaimer if the bottles blew up or dumped somehow on the way home.I'm exited to see how good the stuff is and have been watering everything in sight with it so in a week i hope to report great growth in all the gardens I have 6 more 5 gallon buckets of the stuff going right now this time with trout, catfish and blue gills. A fisherman at church left his freezer door ajar and so he called wanting to know did we want the partly thawed fish We sure did!!! Now we are working on getting seeding going for all the fall gardens. Going to try seeding soil mix from Mothers Organic Humus farms. Also testing his potting soil out. Tomato's are growing very well and looking ready to start blooming soon Been hand cutting seedling templates out and packaging the seeds for grow outs, here are the grow outs we are doing: International vegetables, container tomato's,plums, beefsteaks, brandy wines, cherries,Cannes, climbers, drying tomato's,stuffer, slicers, fruits, herbs, salad gardens, stir fry, gourds, pumpkins,s wee t corn, grains, biblical vegetables, herbs and fruits, broom corn, watermelons, muskmelons, squash, lilies, heirlooms, cutting flowers, hot peppers, sweet peppers, egg plants.... I think of something new everyday but people are really exited about these grow outs and of course I realize some will take and I'll never see them again so I'm growing out as much as possible myself and have been supplying all the seeds from my personal stock . I ordered black bamboo seeds today,i hope i can get them to grow,if anyone knows anything about bamboo,p.m. me what is the best way you have used to grow this out. I continue to study everything i can get my hands on about community gardens but feel i have the right people helping and have many heads together in think tanks to add to our banks of knowledge. We seek God daily for his wisdom after all he is a Master Gardener Pray for our project we need the covering of prayers .May no good prayer go void and may God hear every cry for wisdom and still the devils attacks.there have been a few of late,I've decided to just keep focused on the project, keep looking ahead and asking God what he wants us to do and let him still the storms. This is his community after all ,he knows far better then i his people and how to handle all of us Tomorrow I pack up more seeds for grow outs, get more plants planted into the grow out pots and hand a few more to their new owners, may God bless their efforts!!!

Last week I put a large area of brown cotton seed into the ground for the children's gardens up at the church. I had heard about the method of soaking your seeds in diluted fish emulsion for over night before planting,so i gave it a try. the theory is that the seeds absorb the emulsion fertilizer and then use it as they grow out. guess what?!!!! IT WORKS!!! MY BABY COTTON PLANTS ARE HUGE!! Beautiful deep green leaves 4 times as big as normal, growing like the dickens, strong very sturdy stems. i will continue to use this method and see what the harvest is and then if still great be encouraging classes to use this method. today I'm working on hand outs and adding more tomato's to pots. Still packing up grow out in the evenings and praying like crazy for God to protect these gardens as we are getting ready to begin the planting soon. What a lot of work goes into all this but what a great community project!!!

Gidday
Garden Happy, I must apologize to you cos somehow I have missed this thread till now. I sure believe that I have never seen a more fitting name because you sure are happy and it's gardening that does it to you.
I have been sitting here reading this thread with tears in my eyes, just amazed at what you seen to be acheiving. Good onya mate.
I too use seaweed. I wait till there has been a bit of a sytorm and there is heaps of seaweed on the beach then go down on my tractor with a couple of 44 gallon drums on and almost fill them with the seaweed then they are topped up with water and just left, for ages, sometimes many months. I then just throw the tea onto the garden ans hose it off the leaves cos sometimes it is too strong otherwise. It's all simple but seems to work for me so simple and it works sos I aint gonig to change.
Garden Happy, God bless you and all that you are doing.
