Haaappy birthday tooo meeee.......Just talked to the guy from the water/sewer dept. This is a small town with most houses on septic systems, BUT the geniuses at city hall are putting everyone on a modern, ahem, sewer system. Like it or lump it. Now, the problem for me is my container garden is too close to the path the trencher will take to make the hook-up. It will have to be moved. At least they pin-pointed the work date: "in a month or two, maybe less". LOL LOL SO any way, I can't physically move the totes with 18 gals of dirt. I can move or have moved the 5-gal buckets with peppers. The 4 totes I guess I will take cuttings soon and put those in containers in a new spot. Then when the actual work date is announced, strip all the green tomatoes off the big plants and hope for the best with the fall crop from the suckers. This would be easy to work out if I knew what day, etc but it might be July, might be Oct. Oct 15th is about the time we usually get the first frost, wish I knew somebody to put it off til then.

Well the cuttings I put in water weren't doing anything yet, so I potted them in dirt yesterday. Maybe I'll get a few to strike a root. Thinking about pulling down a branch maybe and trying to cover it and root a couple that way. So hard to do anything when it's 100+ outside. Tomorrow they are saying only 99, yea...

I had luck doing this a few years ago when a few limbs broke off in a storm .. took a while but they finally rooted .. but I used Muddy water so the plants still got some nutrition it was just a to see if it would work for me .. I had more than enough plants

This is just for insurance, since I don't know when or if I'll have to move my existing container tomatoes. I've had quite a few ripe ones already from the early girl, just a couple from the Whopper. Any excuse to grow more tomatoes is good enough for me, lol.

Looking back thru this thread I see the suckers I put in dirt was on the 2nd of July. Yesterday I thought I should check them. They ALL rooted, some with respectable root balls! I transplanted them to bigger pots than the solo cups I had them in so they can grow a little more but now I have to get busy and make a place to put this "fall garden" bunch of tomato plants.

Don't have a scale of the right size, but here's a few of my bigger ones so far. Storm last night broke an entire plant almost in half, knocked over a few containers. Guess I will have to beef up my stakes etc. Uh....jest kinda ignore the toes in the bottom of the pic, musta got in a hurry to post, lol.

Somehow tomatoes don't look as big with just a tape measure. Here's one with GF's hand holding it, looks bigger to me, lol.

Earlier in the year I mentioned the leaves of my fish peppers weren't right, not much white. Now I know they're mixed with somethin' else 'cause the peppers are too straight and a little shorter. No complaint taste-wise but I don't think I'll save this yr's seed. If'n I'm still able I hope some generous Pharmer will spot me a few fish pepper seeds next January or thereabouts

CP~ I agree, Fresno or something, just not pure Fish. They dry ok if chopped first. Lots of seeds and a thin skin but don't want to dry as a ristra.

dunno..looks a bit small for a Fresno.. Are they HOT Mo? Fresno's should be about middle of the road hot... Tthe thin walls is right for a fresno, but it seems there's a bunch of em' there on the plate for a pepper that is suppose to be about 1 1/2 inches wide at the top and 2 inches long...maybe not... Fish Pepper seeds...we got ya covered Mo ifin CP doesn't...just say da word... only thing I can say fer sure is that If you don't see variegated foliage...you aren't growing Fish peppers

I picked a few Red Fresno's this morning, measured and took a pic of some. If I can remember the name of the web site where I store pics, I'll post a pic. The only measured about 2.25 inches long. Phil,, you must have better growing conditions up there, IE: rain, that yours get bigger. Found it. [click on pic to enlarge]

Since they're not what I thought, I'm picking the ripe ones and trashing the plant. I need the room, or rather sunlight, for another plant. I agree CF, that's pretty close to what I got, shape-wise. The only white on the leaves I ever got is 2 tips of 2 branches. It ain't the worst thing that's ever happened around here garden-wise. I got a few hot peppers to eat. Last night's thunderstorm blew over a 5-gal piquin pepper, lost a little dirt and one branch. Sat it up and nailed it down, lol.
