We are not going to plant a huge garden this year , it tends to get away from us beings we have our place up north and can be gone two weeks at a time .. come back to the jungle of africa .. that and our garden is almost right next to the ditch , been there for 100 years probably lol .. I swear all the weed seeds blow into our garden ... but a few mater seeds is great!!

Well, here goes! Daffodils are up, bloomed, and spent. My mums, coreopsis, daisies, black-eyed-susans, lilies, catmint, clematis, roses, and hostas are all coming up green but no buds yet. My phlox are looking good - nice blooms. The lilac bush is getting some nice looking buds on it too. All of the herbs in our little herb garden (lavender, oregano, sage, chives, thyme) are looking good so far. The plan is to add 2 new beds this year and plant those with more herbs (dill, more sage, oregano, etc). Raised beds are turned and "fed" but the only thing I have in there right now is broccoli. I'm waiting to plant the rest. The plot in the neighbors yard (they don't use it, so they let us garden it) needs to be tilled. I'll probably get to that in the next week or two. Other than that, the front and back lawn are both fed. The back lawn needs work. I'm trying to keep the kiddos off of it for a while. That's about it for now!

Thanks for the welcome, Pharmer Phil. Great way to find other pharm loving people. Chickity Doo Doo is a great organic fertilizer at a great price. If people only knew they could buy an effective organic fertilizer for about the same price as synthetics. Keep the humor coming and just do the DOO. Attachments:

Nothing is done here. That ground out there looks like cement and about same color and hardeness.
Pile of horse fert out there. One shed in the way. Room for the 4 bed frames if he tills it.
No peppers up and think house too cold. 68 No potting soil to transplant the tomatoes and too heavy to carry a bag home. I think this garden deal is at its end. I have spent over $100 on it so far and I had the seed. $100 would bought a lot of canned veggies. I decided I would only plant things that I can eat and use. No greens no salad greens. I can eat corn and root crops and greenbeans and peas. I can have some peppers to eat. Tomatoes I do not eat. I can eat squash. Season short here for squash.

We have a large area all tilled up with the tractor, most of our renters and friends having it hard trying to make ends meet, so we will plant extra to help out ....my fruit trees are loaded....have the squash planted, and it is already up, love to see those big green leaves poke up through the dirt....chickens are cooperating, share eggs with friends, eight hens, but they are doing great...

Colorado~ The days to maturity for beans and peas is longer than for squash, especially if we're talking hybrid yellow straightneck. So if you grow beans, you can grow squash. Good luck with whatever you do decide to plant. ;D

Greenbeans and winter squash. I want squash that will keep. Fresh green peas are only kind of peas i know off. They die in summer if too hot here. At ranch they grew all summer and we could pick them. Sister grew and dried some some how. I can not find a place now to buy green split peas to cook. In fancy pack with seasoning way way high. Since I learned to cook dried peas I can eat. Mom cooked yellow ones and they were awful tasting to me but dad sure liked them. I think if seasoned be okay. Can bnot buy yellow split peas. I had bough sedd for field peas and not room here to plant. I had 5 acres when I got them...One can plant peas way earlier that beans and beans said 50 days to start picking. Squash is like 80 to 100 abd would large ones more like 120. I would try smaller squash like acrons and that type and not the huge hubbard. We have maybe 90 days with out frost. I am not sure here. Early stuff could be in now like peas . Although we have one 25 night they said coming up. Rest have bee warm.

Last nite was a maybe, tonite is a frost warning so I bucketed my four tomato plants and brought in the peppers in 5 gals. Supposed to be warmer after this. I did see a cluster of blooms forming on the Early Girl plant while I was covering it up, would hate to lose that.

It's been awhile since I've been on here and have spent about all of this rainy morning enjoying reading all the garden post. I have all my gardens in and so far they are growing pretty good. The newest news around here this gardening season is that after 25 years of marriage my husband FINALLY built me that greenhouse i've always wanted!! I can not express to all of you how fun, handy, and money saving that little greenhouse has been!

The greenhouse wasn't a kit..my husband actually made most of it out of material he found/scraped/picked up from his job. It's small..only about 10 x 10, but we are going to build another one right beside it this fall. It has three shelves running along three walls and actually holds quite a bit of plants! We have a big yard and garden and always need a lot of plants. It saved us a lot of money this spring. All my kids are great! My oldest graduated college last week and my baby turned three yesterday! lol All ten still live here at home but it's looking like my oldest will probly be getting married sometime this year. I'll be posting some pictures on here soon of the greenhouse and the kiddos!

This is my little container garden as it looks so far. 4 big 'maters in the totes in back. I had to come up with some kind of frame to make sure the storms didn't tip over a cage set on top of a bucket. The 5-gals are mostly peppers with a couple dwarf toms in one and a ground cherry in another. On the right if you squint you can see the first Bailey's Piquin turning from purple to orange. I even have a couple rubber snakes in there to try to chase off the squirrels.
