Gidday
I am very openly admitting that I am an untidy gardener. I do it as a deliberate policy because I have always noticed that nature is also very untidy and just drops it's litter wherever it falls or blows and I try to garden as naturally as possible.
Like when I pick my veges for my evening dinner I simply cut the, say cabbage that I want and trimm off all the outside leaves and let them lay and when I pull my carrots I rip the tops off and let them drop to whence they came.
O.K. I know I could put them into the compost but my argument is that nature does not like bare soil. Besides, I know I can make good compost but no way can I make it as good as the Good Lord can and He makes his compost on the surface of the soil by using worms, fungi and bacteria from the soil and the result is a much healthier soil. And another advantage is that the slash from the veges also works as a mulch to suppress weeds.
I am lazy yes, and when it comes to weeds I don't attack them as often as I should but once again I only cut them off and let them lie where they are for the same reason.
So YES I AM A UNTIDY AND LAZY GARDENER but at least I have a good reason.

Jack, I am like you. When I pull weeds in the garden I don't always put them in one of the compost bins. I let them lie. They eventually break down and become one with the garden soil. I see no problem with the way you garden. I don't call it 'lazy', but rather 'flat garden composting'. Keep up the good work. How did your garden do this year? Ours are just getting started up here.

We do the same thing most of the time ..I mean it all goes to the same place , we have a composter but we have more stuff than what can go in there so we just drop it in the garden It's all good

I have to say .. as long as the weeds don't have a seed pod I will throw it in the garden but not if it has a seed pod ... this year we are not planting much of a garden .....

I start out with everything in order but then the heat, grass, weeds, and bugs get to me things sort of go to pot. The veges taste just as good.

A friend plants a huge amt,one year was unable to care for it and weeds took over.Surprisingly it still probably produced better than 50% of the norm, and more than he needed actually.Had to dig around the weeds for the maters, and the zucchini were a search more less, but they were there.

yes the veggies taste just as good, however, they haven't produced to their full potential...therefore I feel like I've wasted my efforts if it's "Mowable" by July a messy garden isn't bad...just harder to take care of/tend to... I reckon for me...It's like kids...Ya either bath em' before they go to school or not..they'll still learn

Since I'm a school nurse Phil I rather you'd bathe the kids. Guess I'll keep my garden clean this year too.

Some times garden scraps make it to the pre-compost barrel, but a fair bit of the time it don't. Its all just sheet composting to me.

My garden is as tidy as can be at this particular moment in time. The grass is gone.
