She had a farm with a few barns yet standing, an old chicken coop still standing. She had a garage full of old stuff along with a very old Ford tractor my dad use to use with a three plow setup to plow two large gardens. We use to follow behind dad gathering up the worms to go fishing at the pond a few yards away from the garden. I loved walking in the garden seeing the melons everywhere along with the sweetcorn from end to end. Those days are far gone as we grow older passing away but still lives deep down inside my heart. I can still hear the sound of the tractor starting up, and dad hooking the plow up to it, as he drove down the hill with rattling chains getting the garden ready for planting. Every weekend the guys got together as the tube radio played the Tigers game soaking down a few beers in the garage.

I also remember my grand fathers garden starts along with him plowing up with his home made tractor. There was always a stocked fridge in the basement with heilemans brown bottles. What a great beer, there was always some yeast in the bottom of the bottles.

I love hearing about stories like this. Thanks for taking the time to share them My wife grew up on a farm, but I was raised in the suburbs. We did have a garden out back though. My lil kids (7, 5, & 4 yrs) know that its a dream of mine to someday own land and have a farm. They were just talking about it again last night. They kept saying that they'd give me their money out of their banks so i could by some land. Makes me tear up just thinking about it. Lil sweeties So, I do what I can to live the dream now, right where i am. My youngest (4 yrs) went with me to the seed store yesterday with her pink cowgirl hat (she was a hit). Then, she wanted to come help me plant the beans in the garden. She did a great job too!

I try to make memories with my kids, but they are into high tech devices and stuff like that. maybe one day they will look back and realize the good things they could have been a part of I would rather be outside in the garden pulling weeds rather than playing video games any day

Thanks for sharing these memories. I remember a little of my grandpa, I loved his tobacco barn. I loved going in there to play. He passed when I was 6 yrs old. My other grandpa passed before I was born. But my parents did raise gardens. I too try to make memories with Bub, and he is into all the high tech devices too. But he does like outdoors. I try to teach him to apprec. nature the way Daddy and Mommy taught me. Again, thanks for sharing your memories with us.

That's so sweet that they offer their cash... I know in times of WOE...when da kids were little... I had sweet offers of help and or money from my lil girls... and that always straightened me out and made me realize what was the most important things I had... I know that I see alot of kids...and the ones that live in the country...seem more alive and happy...just an observation... Seen a BUNCHA happy ones just yesterday... We were standing in the yard... when a big BLACK CADILLAC S-T-R-E-T-C-H LIMO...pulled in A small.."natural" looking young lady got out... The LIMO...was a GIANT BABY STROLLER..well..kid stroller.. She had 5 bouncing, laughing younguns all contained there in... I just love pholks like that...I could tell...as a family...they had no cash to speak of... the limo... Nice...in good shape... COVERED IN GRAVEL DUST!!! She said they bought it on Craigslist at a bargain... and it served their kid haulin' needs to a T just plain ol Country pholks from down the road...
