I can only say they are hard to kill. If you pull them better take to the burn pile. Because if it touches the ground it will root. CF

purslane.... yum I don't know of too many other edible weeds around here (other than maybe dandelions). Guess I shoulda paid attention in Cub Scouts!!! But man does that purslane ever grow around here. I just took a bite of some when i was in the garden the other day. I've had it raw, but I need to try cooking it up and seeing how it comes out.

About chickory~ When I was back east there was a garden with plants to tell the time with. On a sunny day chickory flowers will close by noon. Cloudy one they might stay open a couple hours longer. They had 4 O'clocks etc, wish I could remember the name of the place. Brain fart, lol.

The Chickory Plant :
The chicory plant is Cichorium intybus, is a hardy perennial with purplish-blue flowers that open and close at the exact same time each day. Chicory is common in North American and in Europe. Although chicory leaves are used in food (they are often known as endive, frisée, escarole or radicchio), chicory's roots are the parts used to make 'chicory.'
Each chicory plant has a single, long, thick root (known as a 'tap root'). Chicory root is roasted before it is brewed, but it can also be boiled and eaten like a vegetable.

Yeah, but I'm sure no one has had any problem with these Lambsquarters Never without lambsquarter...and, jus like Purslane...it's good in a salad when it's young ...and good fer Ya... Lambs quarter Trivia:Lambs Quarters belong to the family of Chenopodiums, which translates as.... 'Goosefoot' in allusion to the shape of the leaves, which some botanist has fancied to resemble the webbed feet of geese. The herb is best used as a spinach type vegetable in broth or as a green vegetable. Collect plenty if you want to make a meal of it as it reduces tremendously when boiled or steamed. It can also be used raw in salads, alone or with other greens. It does contain oxalic acid and for this reason it is best not to overdo it, especially when eating the raw herb. People with kidney problems should avoid this herb since the crystals can irritate the kidneys.Nice Thread Pholks...reckon I gotta take pics of our "weeds" now did find one last week on our walk that I did not recognize...maybe ona ya'll know what it might be...we shall fetch a pic! I like the Iron weed Christy...I believe we have that here??
