Phil, it will be hard to thin them but I only want one to make it thru winter. When they get second leaves I will probably transplant two, just in case. Then in April set out the best one.

MOGARDEN- When i lived in Michigan i started tomato,s and ton's of other plants inside in January. they were t transplanted into 5 gallon pails and in full fruit by May. This gave me a 6 to 8 week jump on the season. Cherries(tomato's) and plums I grew right outside of my house in a 50x4 foot wide area that i made a hoop house out of in late winter early spring. We could grow lettuce, carrots, radish's,peas and onion most of the year doing this.It also gave me that jump start on peppers and tomato's. Also if you know anyone getting Humira that gets delivered in foam boxes with foam lid's,perfect planter box as long as you drill holes in the bottom. often i was harvesting green beans and pea's at the same time doing this.Herbs also parsley, cilantro, dill, nasturtiums,Pansy's and viola's grow great in the hoop house. I did not know about wintersowen back them ,wish i had of! good luck, but don't be afraid to pinch back, makes stronger bushes. I gave my mom a hibiscus tree 6 years ago, they live in lower Michigan. A few weeks ago i told my dad to give it epsom salt water(1 tablespoon to 1 gallon water)because he told me it was not looking good. Dad just told me it's full of bud's in their living room right now!

mogarden: Ruth and I just brought in our herbs last night that we had grown in long pots this summer. They are Rosemary, Thyme, Oregano and Parsley. We will see how long they last.

Have any of you heard of using asprin as a rooting stimulant? If so,did it work?

Have any of you heard of using asprin as a rooting stimulant? If so,did it work? GH, Willow water...I have used Aspirin...have heard of this many times, some folks even swear by it... It is suppose to be a substitute for Willow Water ...but it (aspirin)... is a bit different chemically and much less effective... Willow water contains: 3-Indoleacetic acid, a rooting hormone Aspirin: acetylated form of salicyclic acid heck give it a try...seems 4 per gallon is the way to go... but ifin Ya have willows in yer neck of the woods... cut some bucket length...hammer em' a bit with a good board to bust em up some...and soak em' till they smell a bit... after the "smells a bit" gets a bunch...toss em' and start a fresh batch

OR....kill 2 birds with one stone. Cut some pencil-sized pieces of weeping willow. Put in water along with whatever you want to root. By the time the willows have good roots the apples(or whatever) should have some too. Pot them all individually to sell or expand your orchard.

Excellent Idea Moe..great minds think alike...I was just thinking that yesterday as we drove by a vacant house with a big ol beautiful weeping willow

Yeah Phil, I wonder why the world isn't covered in willows by now, they root so easily. It's supply and demand I guess. You've gotta be able to SELL all those little willow trees, no problem getting them started. Seems like willow branches would be good for weaving baskets. Then just coppice the stumps for a perennial "cut-and-come-again" willow farm.

Thanks, CP. I just like to have something growing in winter. If I'm lucky they'll be blooming by April when I start to harden them off.

Well here it is the middle of February, had to cut the piquin plant back a couple times. The last trimming cut off some flower buds but there's time to make more before I set it out. Last nite I started seeds for 2 more varieties of pepper and six tomatoes. All these will go in my container garden, GLWATCDR. (Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise).I put the pots on a heating pad this time since I started them all at once. Now I have to fix the light bubs and get ready for the little things. COME ON SPRING!!

I can't believe they're up! Well most of them. So many of the little pots had sprouts that I gave the heat pad back to the GF. Hopefully the last 3 will catch up in a day or two. I had to scramble around to fix a couple spiral flo lites for them. They're on a high shelf in the kitchen, need to be lower. I can't climb like I used to. Hopefully I'll get a pic today.

I have to get peppers and tomatoes going, like yesterday. I actually started mine a little early this year, but since Brad gave me some space and grow lights, i couldnt pass it up...hopefully it will prolong my growing season, and the plan is to move as much as possible back to the shop in the Fall and use the lights again to keep it all growing. hpltr

No its at Brad's shop, we have over 5000 sq feet and some of the space upstairs is on a mezanine, and we dont really use it, so thats become my spot for all my seeds, Brad hooked up lights for me. I plan to use it in the Fall too, when i move all my outdoor plants up there instead of throwing them all out.
