Rueben was my Daddy's horse. My brother-in-law worked for the man who owned him. He got an eye put out(not sure how) and the man wanted to put him down. My BIL got him for my Daddy. This was before 1986, not sure what yr I accidentally named him. They were trying to name him and I sd Rueben and that became his name. Daddy loved this horse so much. He would give him chewing tobacco, and Pepsi. He'd ride Rueben ginseng hunting, tie him up and go around the hill from him. He'd holler Rueben's name and Rueben would neigh back to him. When my Daddy got unable to ride him and take care of him, he gave him to my brother-in-law in Ohio, he kept him a couple yrs. then brought him back to another brother-in-law here in Ky(Francis). He kept him for yrs. plowed him some, used him to grind cane but not heavily worked. After Daddy passed away, Rueben started having health problems and Francis wanted someone else to take him. So my nephew Scott, who had just bought a farm took him and has had him ever since. He has had some health scares but thankfully, a vet lives a few miles away and will do housecalls. I am so happy Rueben has a beautiful place to live and is well taken care of and has a girlfriend to share his barn with. How old is Rueben now. Sounds like a long life. Great that he will have a forever home.
