I got this in an email from someone that truly knows my circumstances with my grandsons,, I was appalled she had the nerve to send it to me . Knowing How things have been the last three years. I will use two postings as this is quite long in both the email and my reply. I'm not even sure I have this in the right board so feel free to move it, I'm still figuring out how to navigate around here this is the Email Written by a 21 year old!!!!! FW: Love those girls from Texas This young girl has really hit the nail on the head! Applies to all countries, not just the U.S. Of A. IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER,YOU'VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM" WRITTEN BYA 21 YEAR OLD FEMALE Wow, this girl has a great plan! Love the last thing she would do.... The best . This was written by a 21 yr . Old female who gets it. It's her future she's worried about and this is how she feels about the social welfare big government state that she's being forced to live in! These solutions are just common sense in her opinion. This was in the Waco Tribune Herald, Waco , TX . PUT ME IN CHARGE . . . Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job. Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or Tubal Ligations. Then, we'll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, or smoke, then get a job. Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your "home" will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place. In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the "common good.." Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules. Before you say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self - esteem," consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self-esteem. If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices. A N D While you are on Gov't assistance , you no longer can VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov't welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job. Now, PASS IT ON...I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO GET THIS BACK, IF EVERYONE SENDS IT, I WILL GET OVER 220 BACK!!! I WOULD KNOW YOU SENT IT ON!!! **************** I'm like "REALLY???" My reply to her is in the post below,,

I was so offended I just started typing not thinking just went for it how I felt,, Maybe I was a little too hurried to defend my position? maybe not?? Was I wrong to get so offended?? Should I apologize to her for my instant reaction?? Need some feed back here,, This is MY Reply,,, I'm guessing this chick has never had three grandkids thrown on her with a low budget to raise them, If it weren't for the lone star card I would have never been able to feed those boys, If it weren't for the medicaid card they would have never had the therapy they needed to get through the transition from a violent back ground to a calm living environment,, if it hadn't been for cash assistance I would have never been able to keep gas in my car to get them to school or pick them up and work 2 cities away from where I live or where they go to school or buy them clothes when they didn't have any when I got them. Unless people have been in my shoes or other peoples shoes that DO work and STILL need help , then their opinions don't count, 72% of workers that get paid less than $12 p/h with children get a Lonestar card and medicaid for their children, only a few a very Few buy junk food with their lonestar card, because meats and veggies are so expensive now. Maybe Someday this chick may marry a man , have several kids, the man turns out to be an abuser, she divorces him and finds she needs govt assistance, Noone knows the circumstances families face, no one knows the circumstances one may face in the future, She may well end up being one that has the Huge bag of rice, cheese and peanut butter,, shame on her for being judgmental, and presumptuous. Shame on YOU for sending me this in hopes I will agree and send it back to you, Really? ? I will pray for her, This Chick MUST have came from a well to do family that places her self above others with no regard to those that struggle even with an honest job. Maybe instead she should be gripping about the illegals that come into our Country and live basically free including health care. While I work and have worked since I was 13 years old and have NO health care at all for my self, but made Damn sure my grandsons have a medicaid card so I can keep them in good health. Btw I'm praying for you too since you thought I would find anything in that email I would enjoy reading and not get the slight bit offended, Just say'n o_0. ******** Maybe I should have just ignored it?

'Pass it on' to me, means 'delete'. Diane, I have to give you KUDOS for trying to make a better life for the kids. Its not every Grandmother that would take in 3 kids and try there best to raise them, especially after having raised your own kids. I can kinda see her side. With the government letting companies lay off Americans and relocating overseas, for cheaper labor, there are not that many 'good' paying jobs left. I am against women having more kids so our tax dollars will support them. Just like the illegals. Why should our tax dollars support them? We need to go back to the original constitution, the way it was meant to be. There should be term limits for the congressman, no more 'job for life'. Half should be replaced every 2 years. Also get rid of PACS. Sorry Diane, I didn't mean to hijack your thread. PS Phil... I need my smiley back.

Dian: You may not like my interpretation of this young ladies letter, but it sounded more like she was disgusted with the overall situation in this country with welfare and food stamps being given out to those that don't deserve it. Your personal situation is not the same as those that abuse these programs. Which were intended to help people that needed them to get back on there feet...but not to be a steady form of income.
I was raised in the 40s and my mom was the only means of support for me and my brother. We learned how to live on next to nothing. My brother was seven years older then me. I was happy to get his hand me down clothes. We learned how to make scooters out of milk boxes and discarded lumber as well as old roller skates. I wasn't able to get a bicycle until I was 10years old, and it was the only bike I ever owned. I could go on about my life as a young boy but this is not about me or my life. Rather the point is how I learned what sacrifice is. Most people today don't. So I get what she was saying.
I think I can appreciate what you are going threw and wish you well, but I wouldn't take this young girls points personally.

What's wrong with that is it was by a 21 girl. Shes just a young lady. Not a mature women whos been through the real world yet. I can understand the anger people get when they see some one living off state funds when they can work. But most people judge what they see. not what they know..and there are so many who abuse the system its got a bad name. and people group them all into it. Like last night. I went to the store. I was in line with a couple things on my limited funds. (electric bill was high this month) and the girl in front of me who had a gucci ? purse, i phone, nails and hair done, looking like a diva payed with a welfare card. and there's me with my worn out old purse, a prepaid phone I cant afford to put minutes on and looking like a bum paying with my bank card. My first reaction was to naturally get angry. but luckily I can think! lol what do I know other than what I saw. for all I know the purse could of been a knock off or a Christmas gift. the phone could of been a gift from her Mom. and I remember being that age when I did my own nails people thought they were fake. I use to have beautiful nail's.....sigh.... Being the women I am now. a single Mom with a full time job and no benefits from the state can make my first reaction anger but being a women who "been there done that" gives me the maturity to think before reacting.

Like I said if you are responding to my remarks. I understand Dian's situation, and also know what it is like being poor as you put it....of course I never felt that way. It doesn't mater what age that young lady is. The point here is there is to much welfare and food stamp being doled out to people that don't deserve it. My MOM didn't have two nickles to rub together and raised two sons and never looked for one cent of handout, and we survived. So no one can say I don't know how hard life can be. Having said that my feelings are there are to many people abusing welfare and food stamps. Like it or not those are the facts. And Dian I would take what was said personal, I don't believe it was directed at you. By the way Christy I have two daughters and at 21 they had more sense then most adults twice there age, and they new how poor I was raised and there fore could appreciate what it takes to make it in life.

I hear ya all.My take,at 21,bet she is a pampered pet who has never been truly hungry or faced terrible adversity, and yes of course the system is horribly abused by those who are takers, instead of a safety net for those who made the system possible.
You paid for that insurance, you are entitled to use it.No shame in that.

Besides that if you have never worked in your life, how could you have paid into anything? Those are the majority of people on welfare. And as usual the majority spoil it for the ones that really need it.

You have put it in it's proper perspective. My intent was not or ever intended to scorn Diane, actually I know nothing about here situation. My sole point here was about abuse of the system, which we all know is out of control. Same thing applies to Medicare as well.

Yes the system is there for those who need it. It is a good thing!! Really it is, but sadly with any system that is there for those in need can be abused by some. I think it is sad because then some who really need it have such a hard time because they get looked down on. It is there for a reason. And has helped so many! I say use it as long as you can Diane!! It is there for people to use who need it. You are a blessing to those kids! I applaud you!!

You paid for that insurance, you are entitled to use it.No shame in that. And as usual the majority spoil it for the ones that really need it. Of course it drives us nuts, the system. One thing about shopping at the Mexican Market vrs the higher end groceries. At Cardenas I see people making very sensible choices, and bargain shopping for the ingredients to make as much of a filling meal as possible. At the higher end stores its premade crap that is 3 times as expensive, expensive cuts of meat, that sort of thing. Since I switched to the Mexican market Ive enjoyed shopping, something that drives me nutz elsewhere. Nice to see folks who understand what its for. When I see someone with 13 food items like cheap pork, bargain chicken and a few veggies or canned things, those folks arent abusing the system, leave in a 20 year old economy car, dressed in older CLEAN respectable (I see thrift store shoppers) clothing....they are HUNGRY and thankful and truly struggling to get by. When I see the welfare Queens with an overflowing cart of items I find expensive, and then go out to a late model huge SUV,dressed like an African Princess....now thats BS! Grrrrr!

No offense taken in any of the replys here I appreciate the input . I no longer get food stamps for the boys. I worked harder than ever when I got my grandsons to move up in my company, and make enough $ now to not required any extra help for food.. thank GOD The boys will always have a medicaid card as I got them though Child and protective services, so now I have full custody: however because I'm also a certified foster in relative care Grandmother they will receive a medicaid card though age 21 as long as they are in college, and will have their college tuition paid for by the state of TX as long as the college is in the same state we live in. I know God put these boys in my Hands for all the right reasons, even if it meant we had to get food stamps for a short period of time, But believe me the first year with them was such a struggle financially that for 4 months I wore tennis shoes with holes in them so the boys would have nice clothes for school( they never did before living with me and was bullied and laughed at relentlessly for looking so poor and shabby) I didn't care what others thought of me I could care less I wanted the boys to have clothes and things they were never allowed to have. One day I had a home inspection( For foster care) and the agent was appalled by the looks of my shoes . She left and with in an hour she had come back with a gift cert from footlocker so I could get some shoes,, I was so humbled by her act of kindness I bawled like a babyLOL. She said she had never seen a client be so selfless as I was was with the boys, and I had earned so much respect from her and she pushed my certification thru quickly. I say that to say this,, a lot of those getting food stamps have just fell on hard times, and it's a temp situation, and yes I agree many people just get over on the Govt assist' the best way they can and are just greedy losers. The Boys mother is/was? a meth addict, and I don't know if she still is or not as she lives in another state now, It's a shame drugs take precedence over a mothers Love and duties for her children, Her Downfall has become my Blessing with having these great boys with me. Boys did I get off topic here or what

You show a strong sense of integrity that a lot of folks don't have today. I wish you would have sent this response to that article instead of writing in anger..but it really doesn't matter at this point. I wish you and your boys well, You deserve to be proud of you accomplishments. God bless.

Really the answer to your question is "no you are not wrong to be offended" .. The person that wrote it should be ashamed! Why should she be ashamed? She doesn't know Diane, and certainly wasn't directing that at her. You ever hear the saying " If the shoe fits then wear it" Well in this case the shoe doesn't fit.
