Winter Maintenance!
Take time out to inspect all wood handled tools for cracks splits and such. Now is the time to repair or replace bad wood. Dont forget the tool itself sharpen and oil your tools to prevent rust and they will be ready for spring! A sharp tool does a much better job and makes work easier on you!

Great tips xdx This is exactly what I intended. I hope a lot more get involved. Oil changes in your small engines is something else we all should be doing this time of year and additives to preserve the gas in the tanks or containers, this can save you a lot of grief. I now turn the gas off on my small equipment and then let it run dry so there is no gas left in the carburetor to lacquer or gum up the system. Not trying to step on you tips xdx, I'm just excited to give people things like this.

That is a good one,my EU2000 genney would do that, found a youtube hack that lets you turn off but it still runs til fuel gone, very cool.

Spuds and everyone else that may be reading this, yesterday I decided to start our emergency generator since it has been sitting for a while. Well I turned on the gas and next thing I know I'm smelling gas, so I look at the carburetor and sure enough gas is pouring out of the overflow. The damned float was stuck...I turned the gas off and started the generator with just the gas that was in the carb. it ran for a little bit and I turned the gas on again but it still was stuck opened, I asked Ruth to get me the Sea Foam so I could pour some into the gas tank. I did that and opened the gas real slow, and let the engine run for a while and then opened the gas full.....No more leak!
I remembered that when I ran the generator last time I had filled the tank and never added Sea Foam, so even though I let the engine run the carburetor dry,it still had some residual gas that caused it to gum up.Long and Short of it is. Ya still need to add something to the gas to prevent stale gas or lacquering.
This unleaded gas has a short shelf life so having it stand in a container or gas tank over the winter or longer isn't good unless you add something to it like Sea Foam or some other gas additive.
